Ailing Aerosmith Drummer May Sit

The Boston Globe, MA
September 30, 2005

Here's a news flash: Word is Joey Kramer may not be with Aerosmith when the band hits the road next month to promote its smokin' new CD "Rockin' the Joint." But if you think Kramer has been booted, "Dream On." Kramer, who attended the Boston Music Awards the other night, is recovering from a shoulder injury, so the band will "Just Push Play" without him, at least temporarily. Who'll be behind the skins when the band plays Mohegan Sun and the TD Banknorth Garden? One option, we're told, is Kramer's kid, Jesse. Interestingly, Bebe Buell was also spied at the BMAs. The gold standard of rock groupies, Buell's been linked over the years to Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, and, of course, Aerosmith screamer Steven Tyler, with whom she had a daughter, the lovely Liv Tyler. . .

A Taste of The Bigs

Seattle Post Intelligencer
September 30, 2005

In case you've got $12,995 you're dying to get rid of, Major League Baseball will treat you like a big-leaguer for nine days.

For that low, low price, you can be on one of six 20-person teams and travel to six major league ballparks, playing games and receiving instruction from a slate of former major leaguers including Tony Phillips, Brett Saberhagen and former Mariners manager Maury Wills.

The program is run by a company called "Ultimate Experiences," whose partners include Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton.

The first tour begins Nov. 4 and tours the West Coast, starting in Phoenix and ending in Seattle.

No word on whether participants will be tested for steroids.

Rockin' The Joint

Pollstar
September 29, 2005

Aerosmith is set to heat up the chilly months with an arena tour. There are 14 initial dates starting October 30, all east of the Mississippi, but more shows are on the way as the road trip spreads across the country.

The Rockin' The Joint tour commences five days after the release of a new Aerosmith live DualDisc CD/DVD combo - Rockin' The Joint (Live At The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas).

The concerts will feature a special stage setup designed to give fans on the floor the opportunity to get up close and sweaty with the band as it performs on the ramps extending from the stage to the middle of the auditorium. The layout is sure to give folks throughout the venue a better view of the show.

Aerosmith have invited Lenny Kravitz as their special guest on the tour. He'll be performing hits from his 15-year career with the help of his 10-piece band.

Talent, Unity Abound at Local Music Awards

Boston Globe, MA
September 29, 2005

So informal were this year's Boston Music Awards that it almost didn't seem to matter who won. They were once a more ornate affair held at either the Orpheum or the Wang Theatre, but last night they took place for the second time at the Avalon club...

Winners and presenters ranged from Keith Lockhart of the Boston Pops to hot local rockers Dear Leader and Lost City Angels, plus senior-citizen bluesman Weepin' Willie, who won a lifetime achievement trophy... Aerosmith's Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer gave the Hall of Fame award to the Neighborhoods, who played a strong mini-set recalling their punk-pop zenith....

Among the choices assembled with the help of the Berklee School of Music, are songs by long-standing Boston bands Aerosmith, for "Dream On," the J. Geils Band for "Musta Got Lost," and, (natch) Boston's "More Than A Feeling."

Also on the list, such well-known Boston-bred entertainers as Tracy Chapman, Carly Simon, Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor, as well as newer groups such as the Pixies and Human Sexual Response.

Regarding concert pictures this tour

Some of you may already know about this but I urge everyone to read this.

Concert pictures will be done in a completely different system then the past tours, I am making it so it will be incredibly easy for everyone to post their own pictures to the site. You can view it by clicking on the headline above and give it a shot. You can upload random pictures to the TEST folder, PLEASE do not upload pictures to the other albums.

I've decided to use this new system (Coppermine) for a few reasons;
1) I am away at school now and do not have the same amount of free time I did the past tours to upload the pictures as soon as they were sent to me
2) There are more features this way. You can send each picture as an e-card, comment on pictures, vote on them, view slide shows, etc.

If you have a LOT of pictures to post (or you just don't know how to use the software), you DO NOT have to post them. You can still e-mail me your pictures and I will make sure everything gets posted in the right spot and you get credit for your pictures. Currently the limit is 10 pictures per upload, I can NOT make that higher even though I would like. This does not mean you can't upload 100 pictures, it would just take a little more time.

If you have any questions about using the upload feature or any other feature do not hesitate to ask on the message boards.

As always Aero247 will be your #1 source for Aerosmith News & Concert Pictures

Concert promoters hear fans singing the blues

USA Today
September 27, 2005

Sellers' market for hot live acts

...But popular performers usually call the tune, especially in rock and pop. They typically generate far more sales per concert than do performers in other genres, including R&B, hip-hop, country and Latin.

And the demand for hot acts seems to outweigh the supply.

"There aren't a lot of great bands out there that can put on a great rock show," says Aerosmith's Joe Perry. "They didn't come up in that environment, in that era before MTV where you really had to be a good live band."

Fans also don't have to settle for a mediocre show. "There are a lot of other kinds of acts and other things people can spend their money on now," Perry says....

Aerosmith Walks This Way In November

Ottawa Sun, Canada
September 26, 2005

This is a musical marriage made in heaven.

Retro-rockers Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz play the Corel Centre in November.

With classics such as Sweet Emotion, Dream On and Walk This Way, Aerosmith is the quintessential American rock band and one that could headline any concert all by themselves.

But paired with the Grammy Award-winning Kravitz (Fly Away, Are You Gonna Go My Way), this concert promises to be the rock summit of the season.

Tickets go on sale this Friday for $69.50, $99.50 and $119.50 at the Corel Centre box-office, all Ottawa-Gatineau area Sports Experts, online at www.capitaltickets.ca or by phone at 599-3267 or 1-877-788-3267.

Copycats? 'Boston' says 'Dream On'

(Boston magazine, October - 2005)

Boston Herald, MA
September 24, 2005

"Sheer coincidence."

That's how Boston magazine Editor Jon Marcus explained Steven Tyler's image appearing on the cover of the publication's October issue - just 48 hours after new rival Boston Common debuted featuring its own cover photo of the Aerosmith frontman.

Coincidence?

"This issue has been planned for more than a year," Marcus insisted. "We decided on the cover a month ago."

Boston Common, Niche Media LLC's newest publication, says it tapped Tyler three months ago. Boston Common slaps an "exclusive" label on its fall cover - and it's got a point. Tyler, 57, posed for a photo shoot and spoke with Editor Kim Atkinson about Aerosmith's new album, "Rockin' the Joint," his new clothing line, his home and his friends.

Boston magazine commissioned an oil painting of Tyler for its cover and uses a series of illustrations (including one from The Simpsons), which Marcus says were "more appropriate" for a Tyler tribute issue. Marcus said an interview with Tyler wasn't necessary, though he concedes "we talked to his people" about it.

Still, it's clear Boston magazine didn't just slap together its Tyler issue, which offers an in-depth look at various sides of the rock legend through the eyes of award-winning writers.

Calling Tyler "the most lyrical singer ever to front a hard-rock band," writer Andrew Corsello describes how the vocalist's voice "shoots up an impossible octave into pure thin air."

Niche Media CEO Jason Binn had nothing to say on the cover stories story.

Putting aside the question of who tried to steal who's thunder, dueling Tylers on the magazines' covers should fuel an already promising magazine rivalry.

Tyler has it covered

The Boston Globe, MA
September 24, 2005

Forgive us for thinking we could look forward to something different from the city's newest glossy mag. But Steven Tyler, the guy on the cover of Boston Common's first issue, also graces the cover of Boston magazine's October edition. "Sheer coincidence," said Boston's editor, Jon Marcus. The cover of Boston magazine, which hits stands Tuesday, is an oil painting of Aerosmith's singer by Roberto Parada that the mag's editors say was commissioned in July. Marcus said his magazine learned about Boston Common's cover in the newspaper on the day of Boston magazine's publication deadline. "It's a music issue," Marcus said. "Who else would you put on the cover other than Tyler?"

Joe Perry in Mojo Magazine - 10-05

October 2005 (#143):

Joe Perry Self Portrait

The Guitar half of Aerosmith's Toxic Twins, in his own words and by his own hand.

I'd describe myself as...a hard-working, red-blooded American young boy, a musician and a fascinated observer of history and human doings!

Music changed me...as a performer and artist and also as a fan. It's one of the most important things in a person's life, but on the other hand it's just entertainment. We provide an outlet, give people something, some bright spots, that give a diversion from a life that has a lot of ups and downs.

My biggest vice...is spending money. I outspend my wife on clothes three to one. I also collect antique weapons, such as swords. That's why I love Europe so much. They have the best markets and stalls to pick these things up on the sidewalks.

The last time I cried...was when my father-in-law died a couple of years ago. I have no problem with crying.

The best book I ever read...is Islands In The Stream by Ernest Hemingway.

If I had to choose between Vinyl, CD or MP3...it would be vinyl any day. It sounds the best.

When we die...I'm on the fence here. I was born and raised a Catholic, and I don't buy into that stuff, but I don't know if we simply turn into vapour or whether our life energy lives on. Whether that energy is created by electrical impulses or a higher state of consciousness I don't know, but I do think there might be another state of reality where that life energy goes. There are too many unanswered questions to dismiss this, such as sightings of ghosts and spirits - what caused them? But then again we might just drop off and that's it.

I'd like to be remembered as...a good father. I hope my memory gives my family, my kids and their kids the strength to soldier on and make the most out of life. We don't know where we're going after this and everyday is precious.

(as told to Lois Wilson)

Rockin the Joint press release

DualDisc From America's Greatest Rock 'N' Roll Band Features the Live
Album Debut of Classic Album Cuts, Set List Staples and Recent Hits Including
'Seasons Of Wither,' 'Rattlesnake Shake,' 'Big Ten Inch Record,' 'I Don't Want
To Miss A Thing' and More

Rockin' The Joint (Live At The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas) in Stores October 25

NEW YORK, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Aerosmith -- Steven Tyler, Joe Perry,
Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer -- has rolled up a smoking set
list sure to get fans buzzing on Rockin' The Joint (Live At The Hard Rock
Hotel Las Vegas), a new live DualDisc release capturing America's Greatest
Rock 'n' Roll Band at its swaggering best. Recorded in January 2002 during an
intimate club date at The Joint in the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel, Rockin' The
Joint showcases prime Aerosmith in rare performances of vintage album cuts and
recent rock tunes in front of 3,000 hardcore fans. Rockin' The Joint will be
in stores on Tuesday, October 25.

The audio-only side of Rockin' The Joint contains 11 tracks, including the
live album debut of the fan favorite "Seasons Of Wither" from 1974's Get Your
Wings, "No More No More," a seldom-played album track from 1975's Toys in the
Attic, and a cover of the Fleetwood Mac chestnut "Rattlesnake Shake," one of
the first songs the band ever played together and a staple of early tours.
Also included are the live debuts of "Beyond Beautiful" and "Light Inside"
from 2001's Just Push Play and "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing," the Rock 'n'
Roll Hall of Fame Inductees' first mega-hit that went to #1.

"'Seasons of Wither' is one of my all-time favorite Aerosmith songs, but
we never used to play it live in the old days," recalls Steven Tyler. "Over
the years, it's really become an Aerocult favorite and always gets a major
reaction on the rare occasion we drop it into the set list. It means a lot to
me to finally give fans a killer live version of this song."

"We went back to the beginning of the band's career for some of these
songs," says guitarist Joe Perry. "We had fun knocking the dust off them but
it was a little nerve-racking too, because we hadn't played some of the songs
in a while. I think we've only played 'No More No More' live a total of 20
times in our entire career. We were going on muscle memory for some of these,
which gave our performance an edge."

New live versions of songs available on previous live albums include "Same
Old Song And Dance" which first appeared on 1978's Live Bootleg, "Big Ten Inch
Record," last heard live on Aerosmith's 1991 career compilation Pandora's Box,
plus inspired new versions of "Train Kept A Rollin'" and "Walk This Way."

The DVD side of Rockin' The Joint boasts the entire album in Enhanced PCM
Stereo along with four explosive performances filmed at The Joint including
"No More No More" and "Draw the Line" plus the DVD-only tracks, "Dream On" and
"Sweet Emotion." The DVD also captures some behind-the-scenes footage shot
during the Vegas show and on the road during Aerosmith's triumphant Just Push
Play tour.

The band plans to return to the studio this spring to record the follow-up
to 2004's critically acclaimed and commercially successful blues album,
Honkin' On Bobo.

Inside Track...

When Tyler yaps on his cell, we listen

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is an E.F. Hutton for the new millennium - when he's talking on his cellphone, people listen!

According to our newest eavesdropping spy, the Boston Bad Boy was yapping for all to hear in Wal-Mart in Hanover the other day. What our spy - and subsequently the Track - gleaned from the public phone call was that the band was going to shoot a TV spot for Target for the release of a live album recorded at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in 2002. The spot, we hear, would be shot in front of a "green screen" and scenes of a casino - such as the Vegas Hard Rock - will be edited into the background.

Also, there was also mention of party girl Tara Reid during the conversation, but we're told "not to read anything into that."

"That's just Steven being Steven," said one Tyler pal.

Hmmmm.

So what was rock gazillionaire and his flame-haired assistant buying at Target's rival discounter???

"They bought a lot of decongestants - Sudafed among them - and he was telling the pharmacist he was very stuffed up," said our cellular snoop.

It's unclear if that was during the call or after.

Video shoot for Rockin the Joint

According to the *Boston Herald*, *AEROSMITH* frontman *Steven Tyler* was overheard telling someone on a cellphone at Wal-Mart in Hanover, MA the other day that the band was going to shoot a TV spot for Target for the release of a live album recorded at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in 2002. The spot, the *Boston Herald* reports, will be shot in front of a "green screen" and scenes of a casino — such as the Vegas Hard Rock — will be edited into the background.

*AEROSMITH*'s upcoming live album, *"Rockin' the Joint"*, will be released in two versions: a single-disc version containing just the CD, and the DualDisc version featuring the CD plus the DVD portion.

Recorded live at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas in January 2002, *"Rockin' the Joint"* contains 11 smoking tracks covering the band's entire career ranging from the revolutionary *"Walk This Way"* to the killer chart-topping ballad *"I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"*.

The CD Audio Side of the DualDisc contains the entire album *"Rockin' the Joint"*. The DVD Side of the DualDisc contains four live performances: *"Draw the Line"*, *"Sweet Emotion"*, *"Dream On"* and *"No More No More"*. Plus you'll also get exclusive behind-the-scenes-footage of the band and the entire album in Enhanced PCM Stereo.

*"Rockin' the Joint"* is scheduled for release on October 25 via *Columbia*.

Joe Perry Interview - Total Guitar UK

In 1970, the Jackson 5 scored a hit with ABC, Santana was singing about a Black Magic Woman, and Simon and Garfunkel had written their seminal hit song Bridge Over Troubled Water.

In Sunapee, New Hampshire, an ice cream parlour worker by the name of Joe Perry formed a power trio with bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Steven Tyler. Not long after, they added a second guitarist, Ray Tabano, soon to be replaced by Brad Whitford. With the addition of Joey Kramer on drums, Tyler stepped out front and the first incarnation of Aerosmith was born.

With a career spanning 35 years, Aerosmith have moulded themselves into the quintessential rock band: their 1970s years were littered with gold and platinum discs; the early 1980s a wash-out of drugs, drink and line-up changes. By the end of that decade they pulled it back with the legendary rap rock track Walk This Way, featuring Run-D.M.C.

For the last two decades, lead guitarist Joe Perry has been riding a rollercoaster of Aerosmith releases, owning his own label, Roman Records, and creating his own hot sauce, Boneyard Brew. During which time he's been assembling riffs, lyrics and sounds for his eponymously titled new solo album...

Rocker Tyler Talks Fashion With a Common Touch

Blabbermouth.net, NY
September 14, 2005

According to the "Boston Herald," Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is featured on the cover of the new Boston Common magazine — 352 pages dedicated to the city's alleged fabulousness. Media mogul Jason Binn's glossy new book, which hits the streets next week, features an interview with Steven in which he reveals he'll be launching his own fashion line based on his stage clothes. "I've always found that the things I've worn on tour have moved over to what people wear every day," Tyler tells Boston Common. "Sometimes the things I wore in the beginning before I had money were things I put together." Steven, who is working with designer Elise Overland, who had her own line of women's clothes, said his duds will be, like him, androgynous. "I can wear a jacket that most guys wouldn't put on," he said. "I think styles should get back to getting people to wear things that look so good that they don't care. I mean, as long as it doesn't have a bra attached, guys can take a risk." As for life as a grandpa — Steven's actress-daughter Liv, had a son, Milo, last year — Tyler said it's OK with him. "I don't mind being a grandfather, I've been a mother for so many years."

Uncommon Tyler on Common’s Cover

The Boston Globe, MA
September 14, 2005

We got an early look at Jason Binn's slick new mag, Boston Common, and guess who graces the cover? Aerosmith's ageless singer, Steven Tyler. Inside, the frontman talks about food, fashion, and fun, revealing that he and Paul Teutul Sr. -- the dad on "American Choppers" -- took a 1,500-mile bike ride this summer, stopping at the Grand Canyon and Glacier National Park. (Tyler rode a yellow Harley and listened to XM satellite radio the whole way.) Tyler, who's starting his own clothing line, laments the current state of men's fashion. "I mean, as long as it doesn't have a bra attached, guys can take a risk and wear stylish things that went out of style 30 years ago," he says.

Photographer Gets Face to Face With Boston

The Boston Globe, MA
September 13, 2005

The ideal Boston family album would have hundreds of thousands of portraits in it, one for every resident of the metropolitan area. Until that album is assembled, Bill Brett's "Boston: All One Family" will suffice. It has only 240 portraits -- but what they lack in quantity they more than make up in quality...

Connors's picture is one of several dual portraits in the book (he appears with his own reflection). Some pairings are expected (Jay Geils and Peter Wolf performing), some not (Steven Tyler and Bobby Orr)....

The Barn Sign

Note: I do not usually post these kinds of things but thought this would be in the general interest of everyone. I DO NOT know the seller and can not guarante anything.

This is a long description, and I hope that you will read it thoroughly, as I feel it needs all the following information...

You must have a ranking higher than 5 to bid on this item. I cannot afford to relist because of someone who is not a serious bidder. I will deny your bid if this criteria is not met. Non-paying bidders will be prosecuted. Please ask questions, and I will answer as soon as I can. Thank you in advance!

Up for auction is one sign from when "The Barn" was still in operation and had bands playing here. It is the only one I am aware of. It says "2 Bands Tonite" and was used to direct people to the barn during the period that Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were playing here. It is documented in the Behind the Music on VH1 from 2002. As you may already know, or may have learned from the "Behind the Music, VH1" for Aerosmith, the Barn is where Steven, Joe, and Tom Hamilton met.

I currently manage "The Manor" which has the barn attached, and have managed going on 3 years now. I have lived here for over 5 years. I was cleaning the downstairs of the barn, throwing away the old mattresses, chairs, junk wood, and piles and piles of empty beer cans! I threw all the garbage in the dumpster here in Sunapee at the dump, and noticed that this one had writing on it. I pulled it out of the dumpster and brought it home to my apartment where it sat in my closet for about a year.

VH1 contacted me the night before they were going to film Aerosmith's Behind the Music, and asked me to clear the first floor of the barn. It took me nearly 15 hours! When Steven and Joe came at 3:00pm, I realized that I wanted to have them sign something. I rushed about my apartment looking for something... I thought of my CDs, or my tapes, or even my guitar, but then thought about the fact that EVERYONE has them sign these... how many millions of CDs and Tapes and Guitars have they signed!!? When I had finally decided on my guitar, I remembered this sign. I had put this sign on the barn doors, just for looks, and they ended up doing the WHOLE interview RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT!! I knew right away, THIS IS WHAT I WANT THEM TO SIGN.

The sign is white with black lettering and has writing on the back as well. Joe Perry signed quickly at the bottom right, and I brought it to Steven Tyler. He looked at it and made the comment, "I'm going to have to buy this back from you someday!" Steven took his time signing, and even dated it for me saying, "I'm going to do this right for you."

I never had any intention of selling this sign, and quite frankly, I really don't want to, but I am going through a Child Custody battle right now, and am close to running out of money for my Lawyer... without my lawyer, I fear I may lose my time with my daughter that I cherish so much. It has been a very depressing time for me, and I have been selling off everything that used to be close to my heart so that I can keep my time with my daughter.

I remember those words that Steven said to me, and I tried to get in contact with him through his Aerosmith website. I was in contact with someone else associated with that website who made an offer. He stated that he would try to find a buyer, but I am running short on time and hope to find an interested fan or collector here on Bay. I still have heard no word from Steven Tyler or Joe Perry, but am not sure if they even know about it. I still remember Steven's words and hold myself to them. If he or Joe are to contact me, and want purchase this before the end of auction, I reserve the right to end it early.

Don't have a one in a million piece of history, have a one of a kind.

Billboard.com 9/6/05 - Aerosmith kicks out the jams on the upcoming live disc "Rockin' the Joint," which was taped Jan 11, 2002, during a rare club show at Las Vegas' the Joint. Due Oct. 25 via Columbia as a DualDisc, the album culls highlights from a set that included an uncommon six songs from Aerosmith's classic 1975 album "Toys in the Attic."
Although it features only 11 of the 25 songs performed that night, "Rockin' the Joint" includes rarities like "Light Inside," "No More No More," "Seasons of Wither" and "Rattlesnake Shake." The DVD side of the album will offer live performances of as-yet-unconfirmed tracks.
Aerosmith has been kicking around the idea of releasing this particular concert for several years. "Those are so fun. That's when we really feel confident to bring out the old bluesy stuff," bassist Tom Hamilton told Billboard.com of Joint-style club shows in the spring of 2002. "It definitely influences the set list -- very much so."

This is Aerosmith in concert and up close. See "America's greatest rock n' roll band" do their thing on stage with behind the scenes footage, interview clips along with never before seen bonus footage (live and in the studio). Check this out - over two plus hours of Aerosmith including over a half hour of the band captured on video in their studios recording their last record, Honkin' On Bobo. If you want to make someone a fan, this is the DVD to do it. Plus a second bonus audio disc!

The second disc is a 6-song audio CD. It also includes a 7th bonus track, "You Gotta Move," playable only on PCs, that allows you to remix the song using UMIXIT technology.

Seasons to be first single?

From Aerofanatic;

Not to get ANYONE'S hopes up......but......

I have noticed on a website I frequent for upcoming releases, Rockin' The Joint has been listed for about 2 weeks. Well, today....SEASONS OF WITHER by Aerosmith is now listed...

This site also listed Bobo 2 weeks before it listed Baby Please Don't Go...hence how we all knew that was to be the single...

This site is VERY up to date and an accurate source of upcoming radio singles and album releases, and I would be amazed if it wasn't true. It was given to me by a source, so I cannot talk about it's web addy. But industry insiders only have access so I find it VERY reliable...

However, this is rock and roll...and anything can happen. But if so, FUCKIN A I would love this...

More info as I hear it...

NOTE This can NOT be 100% confirmed, so please take it as it is.

New Aerosmith Album & Tour In October

Online Rock Radio, Greece
September 7, 2005

Aerosmith will return with a live project next month, with a tour to follow. The band will release Rockin' The Joint on October 25th as a DualDisc with a 11 songs on the CD side, while the DVD side will reportedly have the band's entire 25-song set from The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on January 11th, 2002. They will support the album with an arena tour this winter, though no dates have been announced.

Aerosmith's last show was August 8th, 2004, at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The band has been on an extended break since then, which meant lead guitarist Joe Perry could finish and release the solo album he'd been working on for some time.

The tracklisting for the CD side of Aerosmith's Rockin' The Joint includes: "Beyond Beautiful," "Same Old Song And Dance," "No More No More," "Seasons Of Wither," "Light Inside," "Draw The Line," "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing," "Big Ten Inch Record," "Rattlesnake Shake," "Walk This Way," and "Train Kept A Rollin'."

Online reports say the DVD side of Rockin' The Joint will include: "Beyond Beautiful," "Toys In The Attic," "Love In An Elevator," "Just Push Play," "Same Old Song And Dance," "Jaded," "Big Ten Inch Record," "Pink," "Sick As A Dog," "Seasons Of Wither," "Light Inside," "No More No More," "Dream On," "Drop Dead Gorgeous," "Stop Messin' Around," "Draw The Line," "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing," "Cryin'," "Mother Popcorn," "Walk This Way," and "Uncle Salty"/"Sweet Emotion," with the encores "Rattlesnake Shake," "Livin' On The Edge," "What It Takes," and "Train Kept A Rollin'."

Lenny in N.Y./Aero in L.A.?

From Sinshine on Aerofanatic boards:

Just a little tidbit (might shed some light on actual dates)...

Yesterday, my wife (who years ago registered for Marlboro merchandise so that I could get an extra free pack of cigs...oh how I miss 'em) received in the mail what labeled itself as an invitation to a concert featuring Lenny Kravitz at the Roseland Ballroom in N.Y. on November 5th. Apparently Marlboro is sponsoring 50 concerts in 50 cities across the U.S. the night of the 5th to commemorate 50 years of Marlboro (yay...let's celebrate 50 years of lung cancer...lol!) and we were 'chosen' to see Lenny in our hometown of N.Y.

Wonder if the tour will kick off in N.Y. if LK is the official opener. If so...wonder if the boys will be in town and show up at the gig (as Lenny often does at theirs).

Interesting nonetheless, I guess ;)

NOTE from Nick (Aero247): I posted on 8/24 about Aero being part of a contest for Marlboro, and it was to see them NOVEMBER 5th in L.A. The 5th is the same day as the Lenny Kravitz concert in NYC. Check the post here It'll be interesting to see what happens with this

Aero and Lenny a go

From Cenacle on AF1:

Did anyone else hear this today on KLOS (LA Radio)? That Aerosmith would go out this fall with Lenny Kravitz.

NOTE: I've been told by a few different sources that this is acurate. It's been long rumored that he would be the opener as I beleive even in Joe said something about it.

'Boston: All One Family'

Boston Herald, MA
September 7, 2005

Boston photographer Bill Brett is on a one-man marathon to collect hundreds of prominent Bostonians' John Hancocks in the next three weeks. Good thing they're All One Family! Brett's book "Boston: All One Family," 240 black and white portraits of the city's movers and shakers, debuts Sept. 27, and he plans to have three copies autographed by every one of his living subjects ready for a book-launch bash. "One copy is going to Mass. General and they will auction it at their Storybook Ball Sept. 26," the longtime Boston Globe snapper told the Track. "I have another copy for the Boston Public Library and the third is for my kids." The book, featuring a cover portrait of the city's last three mayors, Tom Menino, Ray Flynn and Kevin White, is "humanity in its Boston form," "Spenser" author Robert Parker says in the introduction. Brett said he's been working 24/7 to gather the signatures, traveling wherever he has to go to get them. "I drove out to Tanglewood to get (Boston Pops poohbah emeritus) John Williams," he said. "He sat and looked at all the pictures and said, 'This is a masterpiece.' That meant a lot."

Bill will launch his baby Sept. 27 at a swish soiree at the Museum of Fine Arts. Everyone who made the book – local notables from Denis Leary to Dennis Lehane, Steven Tyler to Seiji Ozawa and yes, even the Track – is on the guest list. Brett reports that 35 of his subjects were cut out of the book because of space constraints. The good news is, a sequel is in the works titled "Extended Family."

No Takers for the Dodge Ram

Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, IN
September 6, 2005

"...a few banners scattered throughout the city were the only reminders Monday of this year’s Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival... The auction company’s 35th annual Auburn Fall auction event was a success overall, Daniel Kruse said, even with Hurricane Katrina and high gas prices, which he suspects kept some people away...

A 2004 Lexus concept car used by Tom Cruise in the movie 'Minority Report' got a high bid of $50,000, but that wasn’t enough to satisfy the owner, so it didn’t sell. The park also tried to sell a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie autographed by members of the band Aerosmith, but couldn’t get a bid higher than $19,000, which the owner had set as a minimum."

His Business Is Rocking

The Boston Globe, MA
September 4, 2005

New guitar companies crop up roughly as frequently as world wars... Bernard Chiu, chairman of the Boston-based First Act, believes his company's name will someday be just as familiar to music enthusiasts... So First Act lured two key figures away from the Gibson company. In 2002 it recruited a top luthier, Kelly Butler, to start a First Act custom shop in Boston. The following year First Act hired artist relations whiz Jimmy Archey, whose Rolodex of rock guitarists' phone numbers has helped get First Acts into the hands of Franz Ferdinand's Nick McCarthy, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs....

Aerosmith To Release 'Rockin' The Joint' Live Album Next Month

Blabbermouth.net, NY
September 1, 2005

Aerosmith have set an October 25 release date for their new live album, "Rockin' the Joint". Recorded on January 11, 2002, the CD/DualDisc features such Aerosmith classics as "Beyond Beautiful", "S.O.S.", "Light Inside", "Draw the Line", "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Walk This Way". The DVD portion will mix live performances with behind-the-scenes footage.

"When you can play in front of 3,000 fans, it's an opportunity to pull out some of the earlier and more esoteric songs," guitarist Joe Perry said.

Aerosmith plan to return to arenas for another concert trek this winter. The band will then commence work on the follow-up to last year's blues album, "Honkin' on Bobo". Perry expects the new Aerosmith record to sound like a hybrid of the loose, freewheeling "Bobo" and 2001's more technical "Just Push Play".

"We have 30 years of playing live together, and that's a real asset," Perry told MTV.com in a recent interview. "And that's what we drew from on 'Bobo'. We didn't have time to do a full studio record, but we wanted to press the reset button and do something that was less layered and precise. I hope some of that rubs off on our next recording experience so there's still some of that live edge."

"When you can play in front of 3,000 fans, it's an opportunity to pull out some of the earlier and more esoteric songs," Perry says.

Tracks on Rockin' include Beyond Beautiful, S.O.S., Light Inside, Draw the Line, I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, Rattlesnake Shake and Walk This Way. The DVD portion will mix live performances with behind-the-scenes footage.

Aerosmith Guitarist for Boston Award

Online Rock Radio, Greece
September 1, 2005

Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry has been nominated for a Boston Music Award (BMA) for a non-band project. His self-titled solo album, which came out earlier this year, is listed in the Major Label Album Of The Year category. Perry is competing against rock acts the Lost City Angels and American Hi-Fi, singer-songwriters Aimee Mann and Ray LaMontagne, and jazz guitarist Pat Metheny. The 18th annual BMAs will be handed out September 28th at the Avalon Ballroom in Boston. To vote for any of the nominees, go to nemoboston.com and click on "Boston Music Awards."

Perry told us that he'd worked on the music for a while, but it only came together once Aerosmith went on their year-long hiatus. "Before then, it kind of existed as, like, kind of an A-list of demos, and then, you know, when it became a, a reality to think about putting it out, you know, I really got a chance to work on it more like I would an Aerosmith record. That's what rounded it out and made it into an album, as opposed to, like, 14 or 15 demos."

Aerosmith are no stranger to the BMAs. In 2002, they won Album Of The Year for Just Push Play and Video Of The Year for "Jaded," and in 2004, they won the Major Label Album Of The Year Award for Honkin On Bobo. The band got shut out in 2003, when frontman Steven Tyler was listed in the Male Vocalist Of The Year category and the band was nominated as Act Of The Year, Rock/Pop Band, and Song Of The Year.

The band is expected to return to action this autumn with a live album and a tour.

Plans for Additional Location - Mount Blue

Needham Times, MA
September 1, 2005

It once housed aspirins and Band-Aids, but a proposal for the former Heights Pharmacy on Highland Avenue could turn the facility into a "mid-scale" restaurant. Plans for the vacant store call for it to be transformed into the restaurant Mount Blue, which already has a Norwell location, said Roy Cramer, attorney for the applicant. The Heights Pharmacy closed its doors in 2004 after 35 years of service. The building is one of several vacant structures in the Needham Heights area that is beginning to experience some renewed interest from different parties. Matt Talcoff of the Needham Heights Neighborhood Association said the discussions surrounding the Mount Blue proposal have been "very positive." People seem excited about having another restaurant in the Heights area, he said.

Mount Blue will attract more people to Needham who will see "the virtues of all of the other businesses" in the Heights area such as Town Pizza on Highland Avenue, Talcoff said. Cramer said Mount Blue would be a full-service restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, with 137 seats - 125 seated at the tables and 12 at the bar....

Cramer said the cuisine is "creative casual American." The price range will be "mid-scale," he said. "We want to appeal to the broadest group for Needham." From his discussions, Talcoff said, Mount Blue sounds like it will be affordable with a large mix of different foods. It's a little bit upscale, but not too upscale so that families could not afford it, he said. Live acoustic music will play on Friday and Saturday nights, Cramer said. It's going to be background music that won't interfere with conversations that are going on in the restaurant, he said. "This will change the look of the town for the better," Cramer said, "and encourage other businesses to relocate into Needham."

The Planning Board is scheduled to hear the Mount Blue proposal for 882-886 Highland Ave., at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Town Hall, 1471 Highland Ave.

Metal Edge Magazine - Exclusive: Joe Perry

Back In The Solo Saddle Again

He may have sold millions upon millions of albums, won Grammy Awards, and been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but Joe Perry is one down-to-earth dude. When he invites us to his New York hotel room to discuss his new, self-titled solo album, the legendary guitarist is devoid of the pretense and arrogance so often associated with musicians of his caliber and popularity. Also in the room were his wife Billie, sons Adrian and Roman, and their friendly dog, who didn't let the interview get in the way of the attention he felt he deserved. Perry's seemingly grounded family actually seems a little out-of-place within an opulent setting one would normally associate with politicians and business magnates, but it's not like he hasn't earned his stay in the lap of luxury.

Relaxing on a large sofa, the former drug-addled Toxic Twin comes off as an at-ease family man who is reaping the rewards of years and years of hard work. In fact, this past year is the first time in four years he has had a break from the recording and touring machine that is Aerosmith, and he has embraced that freedom by making his first solo album in over twenty years. Between 1979 and 1984, after he quit Aerosmith for personal reasons, the guitarist started the Joe Perry Project, an outlet for his unfulfilled music desires. The group recorded three albums with three different frontmen. While their debut Let The Music Do The Talking sold a respectable 250,000 copies, both I've Got The Rock 'N' Rolls Again and Once A Rocker, Always A Rocker each sold only a fraction of that. Regardless, they produced some memorable, hook-laden tunes and were good showcases for Perry's playing until he returned to Aerosmith.

This latest solo venture was produced under different circumstances. Many fans had kept asking Perry about another solo record, and he had many ideas he wanted to explore. Once the window of opportunity opened, he leapt through it. Working in his home studio, The Boneyard, with co-producer Paul Caruso, Perry sang and played every instrument on the recordings except drums, which were handled by Caruso. The resultant thirteen tracks comprise a very bluesy album that rocks hard on songs like "Shakin' My Cage" and a cover of Woody Guthrie's "Vigilante Man," but is also tempered with a mellow edge on tracks like the instrumental "Mercy" and the Middle Eastern-inspired "Pray For Me." For ballad fans, there is the country-inflected "Ten Years," a song written ten years ago, celebrating the guitarist's now twenty-year marriage. And while Perry may be no Steven Tyler in the vocal department, he has a pleasant enough singing voice that meshes comfortably with his playing. To support his solo album, the guitarist/vocalist played two shows with a four-piece band, one in Boston (with guest appearances by Steven Tyler and former J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf) and one in New York.

During the brief time he had to do press for his new solo effort, Perry chatted at length with Metal Edge about the album, the shows, hot sauce, horses, and plans for the future.
