IGN Music: Top 25 Classic Rock Albums
March 30, 2007
For starters, this isn't meant to be a "be all, end all" list. It's meant to be a primer. I mean seriously, how the hell could anybody pick just 25 Classic Rock albums and leave it at that?
This is a list that spans the 1960s up until the early 1980s (we decided to cut the Classic Rock timeline at 1984, the very last real Van Halen album to be released (by real we mean containing the original, classic VH line-up of Diamond David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and Eddie Van Halen).
We've also tried to be as wide in scope as possible, choosing a broad selection of classic rockers from the world over, even though it was arguably the British and the Yanks who pioneered and kept the genre going strong.
Naturally we expect to get a ton of mail telling us that our list either sucks or is brilliant. Either way, we encourage you to send in your own lists at your whim. You can send your own Top 25 to us....
12. Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic (Sony, 1975)

Often referred to as America's answer to the Rolling Stones, Boston's Aerosmith were always a little bit more raunchy and over-the-top than Mick and the Boys. By the time they had kicked out their third album, they had also kicked out a damn masterpiece. Just about every single track on Toys crackles, sizzles, and where The Stones went for Blues, Aerosmith went for unbridled white boy funk swagger. "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" are staples of the genre. But "Uncle Salty" and "Big Ten Inch Record" show off the group's sense of ballsy humor.

Aerosmith to rock India for the first time
New Delhi, March 27 -- Iconic rock band Aerosmith will perform in India's financial and film hub of Mumbai, its first performance in the country, the group said on its official Website.
The five-member band, with at least 14 albums to its credit and an envious career spanning over four decades, will hold the concert on June 2, according to www.aerosmith.com.
The Mumbai show is part of a wider tour by the band that will also see it travel through Europe and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Aerosmith released its first album in 1973 and has sung some of the most popular power anthems like "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" from the 1998 blockbuster film "Armageddon", as well as "Dream On" and "Crazy."

Murrayfield's concert plans

"A bid to establish Murrayfield Stadium as a major new rival to concert arenas in Glasgow is being threatened by a revolt from local residents. Community leaders are furious at plans to stage more high-profile gigs at the home of Scottish rugby...
...talks are still ongoing in a bid to lure rock legends The Who and Aerosmith to the venue later in the summer... "

Back Into Gear
The guys are starting to get back into tour mode this week. Steven has been in the rehearsal studio every day this week shaking off the dust and getting his chops down. He has been working with some of his sound and light guys on certain cues he wants during certain parts of songs. Like I have said in the past it is like Santa’s workshop down there with Jim Survis and his crew working day and night getting the gear ready for the South America/Mexico swing. Old drumtech and ambassador of goodwill John “McGee” McGarry has lost another 50 or so pounds. This guy is getting so skinny that we may fax him from gig to gig to save money. But seriously folks, if you ever wanted to go on a road trip now is the time.
Joe just spent the week in NYC hanging with his family and checking out his son’s band TAB at the Mercury Lounge. The boys blew the roof off the place and impressed several Sony reps in attendance as well as other record company big wigs. The guys will be playing at TT the Bears Place in beautiful Central Square in Cambridge Massachusetts on Tuesday April 3rd. Be sure to check them out live or visit them at myspace.com/tabtheband.

Next week the guys will all get together to begin full band rehearsals for the tour. You may think why would a band like Aerosmith need to rehearse when they have been together for as long as they have. Well I must tell you that while they call it a rehearsal not a whole lot of rehearsing goes on. It is mainly a time to check out your rig, try new guitars, go over some business for the tour (i.e., T-Shirt designs etc.) get caught up on what everybody did on their time off, have lunch and then maybe just maybe go over a few songs. With the exception of last tour when they were breaking David Hull in I don’t think I have ever heard the guys play Dream On or Walk this Way in rehearsals. Why would they? It would be like you saying, “Ok, today I need to eat breakfast”. They will go over some songs that they haven’t played in a while like Janie or Dude and they will even dust off something that hasn’t been played in years. If it sounds good they will keep it and if not it will get tossed aside for the time being. I do know that the guy’s video tape these rehearsals and it would be cool for the fans to actually see what goes on inside those walls during this time.

Joe has donated one of his gorgeous Gibson “Boneyard” guitars to The Music Rising Charity. The charity is being run by U2’s The Edge to help get instruments back into the schools in New Orleans. So many instruments were lost by Hurricane Katrina. Joe has signed the guitar but will personalize it to the winner. The money raised by the auction will be used to get all kinds of instruments back in the hand’s of kids who are learning to play them. The auction is going through Julian’s Auction House so check it out.
See you on the Road!

According to a list in the U.K. rock magazine Kerrang!, Young holds the Number One ranking, ahead of Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day, Iron Maiden mascot "Eddie," and the late Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. The rankings feature some of Young's peers, like Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, Aerosmith's Joe Perry, and Queen's Brian May, while also saluting modern rockers like singer Amy Lee from Evanescence, bassist Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy, guitarist Benji Madden from Good Charlotte, and singer Chester Bennington from Linkin Park.
Besides Angus, AC/DC was also represented on the "100 Icons" list by the late Bon Scott at Number 62, Brian Johnson at Number 81, and Malcolm Young at Number 90.

Rock 'n' roll heroes from Jimi Hendrix to Jack White
Jimi Hendrix setting fire to his Fender Stratocaster. Pete Townshend windmilling his arm through power chords. Jimmy Page stroking his Gibson Les Paul with a violin bow. Eric Clapton rampaging through "Crossroads." Joe Satriani playing 1,000 notes a minute.
Since Chuck Berry cooked up his "duck walk" and classic riffs in the mid-'50s, guitar players have been trying to top him, and the image of the guitar hero keeps evolving.
An elite group of players has managed to combine vision, technique, onstage swagger, unforgettable music and other elements to earn the title guitar hero.
Rock fans are getting a chance to see three artists who have attain-ed that status as Townshend and the Who, Clapton and Satriani (with his G3 collaboration) tour nationwide.
There are heroes in all fields, from athletics to the military to entertainment to politics to regular people doing admirable things. But according to one national expert on popular culture, "the guitar player in America is in a class all his own."
"There's a whole iconography, a repertoire of moves," says professor Robert Thompson of Syracuse University. "It's so seductive, and you so much want to imitate it. ...There are a lot of people in this country who the only instrument they play is air guitar. And they play it pretty well."
Air-guitar maestros have several prototypes to choose from.
Guitar greats like Hendrix and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers interact with their instruments in a way that makes them seem like an extension of their body.
Hendrix, who died in 1970, worked the neck and body of his guitar in a manner that exuded sexuality.
During Super Bowl XLI in February, Prince raised eyebrows with some sensual guitar moves at halftime.
Others, like Townshend and AC/DC's Angus Young, seem to want to pound their guitars into submission. Listen to Townshend bash his way through "Summertime Blues" or Young play "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)," and it's clear no prisoners are being taken.
"There is a sense that it is a weapon, a sex toy and a partner all at once," Thompson says.
Satriani, G3 alumnus Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen are content to let their lightning-fast fingers take their music to incredible heights. They're known as "shredders" for the way they assault the guitar's strings and fret board, the flat part of the neck where notes and chords are fingered. Exhibit A? Van Halen's mind-blowing work on "Eruption."
And one group, including Clapton, Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits and blues master B.B. King, have reached the point where less becomes more. This guitar hero is not out to impress with speed, but rather to express emotions through measured, flawless playing.
"What makes B.B. King so incredible is he can play one note, and it's got 70-odd years (of experience) in there," says Chuck Hall, an Arizona-based blues guitarist who has toured the Southwest and Europe. "You can hear it."
Recipe for stardom
Some common factors run through the work of all guitar heroes, according to some respected players.
"Guitar heroes don't have to be virtuosos; they have to arrive in a timely way with a particular style or attitude," Satriani says. "Take a guitar player like Jack White (of the White Stripes and the Raconteurs), who you wouldn't say could play like Steve Vai. But he's ... arrived on the scene with a look, a great voice, some cool songs, along with some really cool guitar-playing."
"You have to be a leader with a clear vision of where you are going, so you take people with you," Hall says. "Jimi Hendrix broke such new ground." Players with that vision end up producing sounds that are instantly identifiable.
A bombastic surge? Page. Crazy yet precise? Van Halen. Rock-edged blues? Stevie Ray Vaughan. Latin-flavored majesty? Carlos Santana. Rock meeting funk? Aerosmith's Joe Perry. Aggressive slide guitar? Duane Allman, who died in 1971.
On the horizon
Although a bumper crop of guitar heroes took flight in the '60s, '70s and '80s, the more recent appearance of players like White and John Mayer shows that the guitar hero isn't dead.

Hyde Park Calling: Saturday headliners confirmed
March 19, 2007
Taking place over the weekend of June 23-24
The headliners for this year's Hyde Park Calling have just been announced this morning (March 19), with Peter Gabriel and a reformed Crowded House named as the main attractions.
With Aerosmith already confirmed as the following day's headline act, the classic-rock themed event will see Crowded House playing their first London show since June 1996. Also named today were The Feeling and Ghosts for Saturday's line-up, and The Answer joining the Sunday line-up - which sees Aerosmith's first UK concert in eight years.
Many more acts still to be confirmed.
Live Nation's Managing Director Stuart Galbraith said: "To get such special acts to complement Aerosmith on Sunday is an incredible coup for Hyde Park Calling. Crowded House returning to a London stage after ten years absence will be an amazing event and Peter Gabriel always puts on a truly fantastic show'

Lennon covers to help Darfur
March 18, 2007
Instant Karma, an all-star album benefiting Amnesty International's campaign to end the Darfur genocide, arrives June 12 with an elementary pitch.
"Buy a record, save a life," says Jeff Ayeroff, the CD's consultant and former vice chairman of Warner Bros. Records, a "Karma" partner with Amnesty and Yoko Ono. "The idea is to raise consciousness and put money on the ground."
The basic $19.98 CD has 20 John Lennon covers, including the title track by U2, "Working Class Hero" by Green Day (a video is also expected), "Mother" by Christina Aguilera, "Power to the People" by the Black Eyed Peas, "Love" by the Cure, "Jealous Guy" by Yousou N'Dour, "Imagine" by Willie Nelson and "Real Love" by Regina Spektor. Tunes by Big & Rich and Jack Johnson also are due.
Half the 40 tracks will be available overseas or as bonuses on CD tailored for online and big-box retailers. "Give Peace a Chance" is interpreted by Aerosmith with Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars and by a Japanese ensemble in the vein of "We Are the World." All will be sold as individual downloads. Artists donated recordings and Ono waived publishing rights to Lennon's catalog.
The project "is typical of Yoko and the kind of political act and plea for sanity John would do," Ayeroff says. He calls Lennon an incentive for activism. "He's an icon, a martyr. He was the archetype for Bono, and young kids know this."
A key lure is "No. 9 Dream" by R.E.M., featuring departed drummer Bill Berry for the first time in 10 years. (A-ha also does the tune for the European disc.)
"Dream" was a one-shot, "but who knows what the future holds," R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills says. "He's still a fantastic drummer. It's my favorite John Lennon solo song, and it's a nice opportunity to have an influence, however small, on pressuring the Sudanese government to let U.N. troops in.
"I'm both deeply cynical and optimistic. The cynicism comes from the fact that this revolting situation exists. Music is a powerful influence in raising awareness, and you never know which ripple will knock the boat over."
Larry Cox, Amnesty's executive director, has seen music sway masses, particularly in such Amnesty efforts as the 1988 Human Rights Now! tour.
"There's no situation that demands action more than Darfur, and this project seems like the perfect vehicle," he says, adding that each "Karma" purchase, which includes temporary Amnesty membership, could generate more than cash and enlightenment. "It's about enlisting a new generation of activists. Young people are eager to help. They're not jaded or depressed. Our challenge is overcoming a degree of hopelessness. We can't afford to fail."

'Rock Autism' Initiative Set to Build Autism Awareness
March 13, 2007
VH1 Classic to Launch First-Ever Pro-Social Campaign
Washington -- PRNewswire/ -- VH1 Classic announced today that it will launch its first-ever pro-social initiative geared towards raising awareness about autism. The "Rock Autism" campaign will kick off with a music star-studded public service announcement on April 1 to mark the start of Autism Awareness Month. The announcement of the campaign's launch was made today to cable programmers and affiliates at a luncheon during FORUM 2007, the Cable Television Public Affairs Association's annual conference.
Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that is the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States, affecting one in every 150 children born today. The cause of autism is still unknown and a cure does not exist.
"Autism is such a devastating disorder for so many families, and its rate of prevalence is increasing at an alarming rate," said Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager, VH1. "VH1 Classic has dedicated itself to making an impact on autism because many of our viewers are parents who are now dealing with this issue. We've also found over the years that this disorder has touched the lives of many of the artists and musicians that we work with at VH1 Classic."
"Rock Autism" will use the influence of VH1 Classic and its connections with classic rock artists to make a measurable impact in this field by bringing awareness to the facts about autism, and by raising funds for autism organizations. The first 30-second PSA features a lineup of classic rock legends including Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Roger Daltrey of The Who, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Tommy Lee and Vince Neil of Motley Crue, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Ronnie James Dio, and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister.
The campaign will feature both on and off-air components, including public service announcements, VH1 Classic news breaks, and on-air fundraising stunts. The April launch will also include "Pay to Play," a fundraiser where viewers can go online and make a donation in exchange for VH1 Classic playing their favorite classic video. Proceeds from this element will go to The Cure Autism Now Foundation. VH1 Classic previously used "Pay to Play" as a fundraiser after Hurricane Katrina to raise funds for Mercy Corps, an international humanitarian relief organization. This partnership with Mercy Corps was VH1 Classic's first public affairs effort and successfully raised over $150,000 for hurricane relief.
In addition, a website will be created at http://www.rockautism.vh1classic.com/ where viewers can access information on autism, link to autism organizations, and learn about upcoming fundraising events and auctions in conjunction with the initiative.
Launched in May 2000, VH1 Classic is a 24-hour network that presents music videos, concerts and music specials featuring classic rock, soul and pop artists from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and early 90s. Featured artists include The Beatles, The Stones, Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Stevie Wonder, The Police and many more. Learn more at http://www.vh1classic.com/.

News From The Road
March 12, 2007
News from the Middle East
It’s the calm before the storm.
The other day Joe and Joey jammed at Joe’s house for the afternoon. Just kinda getting the rust off and kicking around some riffs. I had a nice conversation with Steven about the set list for South America. We traded ideas. Looks like it will be slightly different than the last US/Canada tour. It may even include a Nine Lives tune or two. They won’t be reinventing the wheel here folks but a little mix up would make it exciting and edgy.
I have seen the future of Rock and Roll and their name is: TAB! Tony, Adrian and Ben. Tony and Adrian are Joe’s sons and Ben was in Tony’s first band. I saw them Sunday night at the Middle East Club in Cambridge. They played in the smaller room upstairs. Aerosmithistorians will remember the night in November of 1995 when the Bad Boys of Boston crossed the Chaahles Rivah to play downstairs to 1000 or so people that packed into the converted bowling alley. Well this time it was the Perry boys turn. With Adrian (professor Bizness’) on bass and lead vocals taking over as part carnival barker, part television evangelist. His in between song banter was clever and inspiring. He was the smartest dresser of the 3. He took swigs out of his Poland Springs bottle as frequently as Steven Tyler took swigs of Jack on the Rocks tour. Tony Perry was constantly chewing out a rhythm on his bubble gum and commanded the stage not like his famous Dad but more like Tom Morello from Rage. Ben the drummer kept the beat fresh and had an uncanny resemblance to a young Doogie Howzer. These guys were just plain awesome. It was their first show and the 100 or so people who comfortably packed the upstairs were treated with a great set of rock and roll. They even tossed in covers by Deep Purple (Highway Star) Aerosmith (Draw the Line) and Cheap Trick (Hello There). Their proud father was in attendance and nodded with approval after the set. TAB will be playing 2 shows in NYC on March 15 and March 25th. Go check them out and tell them I sent you. Also be sure to check them out on myspace.com/tabtheband.
The bad boys have set a date to reconvene at the end of the month to start rehearsing for the South America/Mexico dates. It looks like it will be a busy next few months for the guys so keep it here to get the latest news.
See you on the Road!

Brad Whitford talks with NASCAR Illustrated
Aero Force One
March 12, 2007
From: April's NASCAR Illustrated -
The Whitford File:
Anyone familiar with VH1’s “Behind the Music” treatment of Aerosmith knows the band has endured its ups and downs. While the Boston quintet has sold over 140 million albums and scored 21 top-40 hits since its 1973 debut, heavy substance abuse nearly destroyed the band in the late-70s and early ’80s. However, after rap pioneers Run DMC sampled “Walk This Way” in 1986, they reclaimed the spotlight (and virtually invented the rock-rap genre). The renaissance gained momentum with the 1987 release of Permanent Vacation, which featured the hits “Dude Looks Like a Lady,” “Angel” and “Rag Doll.” Two years later, Aerosmith earned a Grammy Award for “Janie’s Got a Gun” from the album Pump, which also included “Love in an Elevator.” By the time the band scored early-90s hits with “Livin’ on the Edge,” “Cryin’,” “Crazy” and “Amazing,” Aerosmith had cemented its place among the greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands of all time. Brad Whitford, who has played rhythm guitar on Aerosmith’s wild ride since they formed in 1971, is a diehard race fan, even taking his RV to several NASCAR events. The 55-year-old owns the F1 Boston go-kartracing facility and his bio lists,“burning fuel at the race track” as his favorite smell.

NASCAR: I love it. It is, by far, the best racing to watch because guys are battling it out all the time. I like open-wheel racing, but the fields are too small and there’s never enough passing. That’s why guys like Juan Montoya are coming over from F1. They want to mix it up with the best on the biggest stage for the biggest money.
. . . being a guy from Boston who digs NASCAR:
I’ve always loved cars. Growing up, I had a neighbor who built dragsters. They were like street hot rods — ’30s Fords and such— but they were gorgeous. He would get ’em out in the driveway and fire up the engine. Flames would shoot from the short-pack exhaust. Seeing that as a kid, I got hooked on anything with four wheels that goes fast.
. . . his favorite cars:
I’ve got some old Chevys and Porsches, but today you just have to love what’s going on. Even with gas prices soaring, there are horsepower battles being waged between manufacturers. Street cars with 500 horsepower and all the modern amenities … that’s just awesome. It’s like a return to the days before the first gas crisis in the early ’70s when everyone was going for lighter and faster. It may be the last hurrah, but I’m just glad I’m here for it.
. . . going to races:
My schedule doesn’t allow me to go very often, but when I do, I like to stay in the infield and have the total experience.
. . . the craziest race fans:
The 12 Hours of Sebring gets a really wild crowd. The race is definitely secondary for those people.
. . . the two lives of Aerosmith:
In the beginning, everything we did came right from the gut. We didn’t listen to anybody and made a lot of great music, but we also made a lot of lousy decisions. After the Run DMC thing and Permanent Vacation, we started listening to people and doing things differently. We were more mature and knocked the cobwebs away.
. . . music today:
One nice thing is that it seems young people are starting to rediscover Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendix. Maybe they’re sick of how “packaged” music has become. Groups today don’t tour around in station wagons playing clubs and developing as bands. It shows in their performance, musicianship and how disposable they are. They have no bones, no foundation. So much of today’s music is just forgettable.
. . . hearing Aerosmith songs on the radio:
I still turn ’em up, especially the old stuff.
. . . reworking “Back in the Saddle” for ESPN’s NASCAR coverage:
As you can imagine, I’ve wanted to partner with NASCAR for years, so I’m really excited to combine two classic American icons: Aerosmith and NASCAR.

Like father, like sons for Aerosmith axman Perry
March 13, 2007
It’s unusual to see a shiny black stretch limo parked outside the Middle East. The Cambridge rock club doesn’t typically attract much glitz.
It’s even more unusual to find Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry quietly taking in a show at the Mass. Ave. club. But when two of Perry’s sons are making their debut with their new band, limos and guitar gods make sense in Central Square.
About 100 people turned out Sunday to see TAB - a name derived from the first initials of brothers Tony, 20, and Adrian Perry, 25, and drummer Ben Tileston, 20 - play a late night, 45-minute set of quality sludge metal bordering on both heavy blues and punk.
Unlike dad’s relatively clean brand of dirty rock ’n’ roll, bassist/vocalist Adrian and guitarist Tony indulge in messy music mired in dark Deep Purple and Black Sabbath riffs and hip White Stripes and Stooges changes.
Standing in the corner next to stacks of their debut EP, “XMass,” Adrian explained the band’s spontaneous beginnings.
“We’ve only been playing together since December,” he said. “We got together for fun to write some rap songs, but after a while we had like 10 songs written. We recorded them in a week for this EP and plan to do another EP soon and then a full-length album.”
Neither of the Perry boys said they were pushed by their dad to become musicians; they gravitated to it on their own. But it’s clear they’ve inherited some of pop’s talent. It’s also clear the Aerosmith axman is proud of his sons -10 minutes into the show Perry and wife, Billie, snuck in and watched from behind the sound board.
Throughout the noisy fuzz metal of originals “Look Out Your Back” and “Ron Mexico” and creatively covers of Deep Purple’s “Highway Star” and Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize,” Perry nodded along with an occasional smile.
After the set both parents seemed impressed.
“Tony is light years ahead of where I was at his age,” Dad said.
“And Adrian’s a great guitarist too,” added Billie. “He’s just a better bassist, so it made sense for him to play bass.”
Neither Tony nor Adrian want to use their music industry connections to further their career. They both said they “want to let the music do the talking,” a sly reference to their father’s 1980 solo album.
Adrian, who spent a year working as a talent scout at Epic Records, has one more year at Georgetown University Law School while his little brother is studying the music biz at NYU. Ben, their bud from Duxbury, is enrolled at Boston University where he’s training to be a classical percussionist.
With loads more talent than your average rock star progeny, the promising TAB should do fine without parental interference. However, a tour with America’s greatest rock band couldn’t hurt.
“Hopefully they’ll get a hit record and I won’t ever have to work again,” laughed Perry, during an interview the night before the show.

Aerosmith: NASCAR/ESPN2 Video Posted Online
March 8, 2007
Aerosmith's live version of "Back in the Saddle" with new racing-themed lyrics, which was filmed in November at the band's concert at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, has been posted online at this location. The footage, which aired for the first time on February 17th on ESPN2 before the NASCAR Busch race in Daytona, FL, will be an integral part of the network's NASCAR telecasts in 2007.
Aerosmith are all NASCAR enthusiasts, and their relationship with the sport was highlighted in 1999 when driver Kenny Wallace drove the Aerosmith-sponsored #55 Chevrolet.

Rolling entrepreneurial thunder
March 8, 2007
Chris Olson definitely isn’t your typical businessman... But a businessman he is. As co-owner, with his wife, Tammy, of Chris Olson Custom Cycles, he has big entrepreneurial ambitions. They go well beyond trying to eke out a profit building expensive custom motorcycles one at a time for a relatively small group of potential buyers here. Those goals include developing a “legend series” of limited-edition, widely marketed bikes honoring past music and movie stars, and possibly attracting a larger-scale motorcycle manufacturing operation here.
The Olsons currently are seeking to raise $1.5 million in angel investor money, which he says is the minimum amount needed to kick off production of the “legend series” bikes. He says they expect to hear a decision within the next month or two from an investor who is considering buying the rights to their concept and making the Olsons shareholders in the venture, but they also are continuing to explore other possible sources for those funds as well...
The whole “legend series” idea, he says, was triggered by a phone call he received about two years ago from KISS member Gene Simmons. Simmons, he says, was interested in having him design a bike that could be marketed to KISS’s large international fan base, but Simmons didn’t want to provide the startup capital for such a venture.
In support of their business concept, the Olsons note that a few similar ventures are springing up elsewhere around the country, taking advantage of a steadily rising public interest in motorcycling. Aerosmith rock band lead singer Steven Tyler and Bruce Rossmeyer, one of the nation’s largest Harley-Davidson dealers, recently collaborated to sell 10 Steven Tyler Signature Series limited-edition custom motorcycles in 10 days, at $80,000 each. Rossmeyer also has announced plans to release 30 specially designed Harley-Davidson motorcycles this year to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death in August. Those bikes reportedly are expected to sell for around $58,000 each. Separately, Orange County Choppers has taken a sports theme approach by announcing plans to introduce officially licensed National Hockey League team custom bikes...

Beatles, sure, but Shania??
March 8, 2007
What’s the No. 1 Definitive Album of all time?
The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” at least according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the National Association of Recording Manufacturers, which have released their “Definitive 200.”
Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” comes in at No. 2 and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at No. 3. No surprise there.
But you might be tempted to start laughing when you find Shania Twain’s “Come On Over” ranked No. 21. Keep reading to see which Boston boys made the cut: The band Boston’s “Boston” is No. 43 and Aerosmith’s “Toys In the Attic” No. 54, which puts them both ahead of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In the U.S.A. (No. 56) and John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” (No. 78).
The final local entry, The Cars’ self-titled debut, lands at No. 131. But don’t feel too proud. Kenny G., Creed and Nelly also made the cut.
Check out the entire list at www.rockhall.com/pressroom/definitive-200 and let the arguing begin.

The band's durability and adaptability have allowed them to sustain acclaim and success for the better part of the 37 years they have been active, forging worldwide hits, such as 1977's "Walk this Way", 1987's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" through to the 1998 blockbuster ballad "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing".
