Healey was supposed to be there but has canceled. The other gubernatorial candidates, Christy Mihos, Tom Reilly, and Deval Patrick, are taking part in the annual benefit for Urban Improv, joining Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Larry and Stacey Lucchino, and DA Martha Coakley, among other notable nabobs....

Aerosmith has been forced to cancel the remaining dates on its spring tour with Cheap Trick. Although a spokeswoman could not confirm details, sources tell Billboard.com lead singer Steven Tyler will have to undergo throat surgery and will be placed on total vocal rest for an extended period of time.

The band played a handful of shows earlier this month but Tyler's condition did not improve and he was advised by doctors to take immediate action. The tour was to continue... (March 21) in London, Ontario, and had dates on tap through April 15 in Sacramento, California. Refunds will be available from points of purchase.

Aerosmith's next order of business will be the start of work on its next studio album, for which there is no timetable....

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler will undergo surgery this week for an undisclosed medical condition, forcing the band to cancel the remaining dates of its North American tour.

The band's publicist, Marcee Rondan, said Tuesday that Tyler was "doing fine" but declined to elaborate on his condition.

"Despite Aerosmith's desire to keep the tour going as long as possible, Tyler's doctors advised him not to continue performing to give his voice time to recover," Rondan said in a statement.

Tyler, who turns 58 on Sunday, can't perform for an extended period of time, Rondan said, adding the band was on hiatus.

Aerosmith canceled recent concerts in Manchester, N.H., Pensacola, Fla., and Lexington, Ky., because of illness, though the tour press director did not disclose who was sick or the nature of the illness.

There’s a whole lotta Cryin’ amongst Aerosmith fans who are worried that frontman Steven Tyler’s throat is shot - or furious that the band has pulled the plug on six shows this month with little warning.

Sources say the Boston Bad Boy is under doctor’s orders to rest his severely strained vocal chords, which have taken quite a beating since the band’s “Rockin’ the Joint” tour kicked off last fall. And when you’re pushing 60, rockers don’t bounce back like the ol’ days!

Steven, who also was felled by the flu, has been kicking around the house on the South Shore for the past couple of weeks. He was spotted at Whole Foods in Hingham this week licking his famous lips at the bakery counter and was overheard complimenting a clerk on her eyes.

“He sounded like he had laryngitis and he had someone doing the ordering for him,” said our spy in the aisles. “They ordered a half dozen cannoli and some fruit tarts.”

The band, which has been on hiatus since the first week in March, scrapped their St. Patrick’s Day show in East Lansing, Mich., with two days notice. But fans from Pensacola, Fla., to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., weren’t so lucky - they got, at most, a day’s warning.

Members of the fan club Aeroforce One have spent two weeks warning members not to travel great distances for shows that were in jeopardy of being scrubbed. But the mob in Montreal is confident that the show scheduled for tonight at the Bell Center will go off. (Hmmm. See Whole Foods, above.)

While the band’s management refuses to report any information about Steven or the tour, they did tell us it’s “absolutely untrue” he’s suffering from throat cancer - another fan theory. Bird flu was another.

“You know Steven,” bassist Tom Hamilton told the Track. “Anything worth doing, to him, is worth overdoing.”

Hamilton said the band is touring more now than it did 10 years ago. Which does take a toll when one is 10 years older.

CD Review: D.M.C. - Checks, Thugs and Rock’n’Roll (RomenMpire)


You might think that your ears are playing tricks on you when you hear the opening of Darryl "DMC" Daniels' first solo album.

A rockin' guitar lick from Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" by members of Aerosmith, The Cars and Buckcherry backs the rap of DMC, of the legendary rap group Run-DMC. The same happens on "Just Like Me," featuring Sarah McLachlan, which samples a rock version of Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle."

It's disorienting at first to hear loud riffs sometimes overpower the lyrical poetry about overcoming alcoholism and second chances, but remember, Run-DMC was among the first rap groups to record and perform with a rock act when it teamed up with Aerosmith on "Walk This Way" in 1986. This inspired the popular rock/rap genre of the late '90s.

The old-school vibe is continued throughout the album (and appreciated) with featured vocalists of the old-school hip-hop era.....

Chance of a lifetime Area band gets shot at fame with showcase at legendary New York club


North Reading -- Last night, the Boston-based band Angry Hill hoped to make good on the chance of a lifetime.

The band performed in a showcase for various record labels at the legendary CBGB in New York.

It was the culmination of a journey that began in March 2005.

That's when Tracy Vail, a part of Angry Hill's management team, set up a meeting between the band and entertainment lawyer Frank Cimler Jr.

Cimler attended the band's practices over the following months and decided to send front man Keith Denehy to perform with Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith along with Darryl "DMC" McDaniels all-star cast at Toronto's LIVE 8 in July 2005.

When Denehy got home, Cimler and Keith Garde, part of Aerosmith's management team, mentioned to Angry Hill that Kramer was interested in taking on a management role with an up-and-coming band.

One month later, Kramer, Cimler and Garde attended an Angry Hill performance at the Sky Bar in Somerville.

They liked what they saw and heard. Kramer, Cimler and Garde -- by now Angry Hill's management team -- thought adding a fourth member, a second guitarist to be exact, would help strengthen the band.

"We got another guitar player to help fill out the sound and to free me up a little bit more, which is great," Denehy said. "But to be honest with you, we were a little hesitant with the idea. Not because we didn't think we could use another member, but to get chemistry with in the band is not the easiest thing in the world."

Denehy and the other band members, brothers Sean and Josh Roberts, held auditions to find the fourth member. Interested guitarists played alongside Angry Hill in front of Kramer, Cimler and Garde.

Angry Hill decided on local guitarist Justin Piper.

"Originally we passed on all the guys," Denehy said. "But we ended up really liking (Justin) so much we fought for him."

Piper knew it wouldn't be easy becoming the fourth member and second guitarist in Angry Hill, but welcomed the challenge.

"The fans have been really cool. I think the fans see that we complement each other, not just band-wise, but guitar-wise," Piper said. "They see I'm not taking anything away from Keith."

So, the newly revamped Angry Hill took the stage at CBGB for the chance of a lifetime.

"This is the biggest show of our lives," bassist Josh Roberts said.

Knowing the importance of the show to the band, fans of Angry Hill rode on a bus with the band to New York while more followed in cars.

"The fans are part of the show," Denehy explained. "If you don't have them there you don't get the same feel, the same vibe on stage."

The band added their signature, "luv luv" to all the fans who have supported them through the years and in New York.

Angry Hill performed a half hour set consisting of six songs.

"It's just a snapshot," Denehy said. "It's Frank's theory -- leaving them wanting more."

They've given it their best shot. For Angry Hill, all that remains is the hope that one of those scouts at CBGB will believe in them and think they've go the right stuff.

According to LiveDaily.com, Aerosmith plan to resume their tour Sunday (March 19) with a gig in Montreal, a band spokeswoman said.

Since March 4, scheduled concerts in in Pensacola, FL; Lexington, KY; Manchester, NH; Hershey, PA; Wilkes-Barre, PA; and East Lansing, MI; were canceled, some with little notice. The reason for the cancellations is an unspecified illness in the Aerosmith camp, which some people think is a nasty upper respiratory issue that's got a hold on frontman Steven Tyler, according to Launch Radio Networks.

Per Billboard, Aerosmith is the number three tour in the country, behind U2 and Bon Jovi.

A half-century ago, B.B. King decided his timing was perfect.

A former cotton-picker from the Mississippi Delta, he was playing rhythm-and-blues records on a Memphis radio station. King - who reaches the MSU Auditorium tonight - was bridging eras.... Today, at 80, he continues to bridge generations....

The schedule had seemed ideal, with back-to-back concerts featuring members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: It would be King (chosen in 1987, the Rock Hall's second year) Thursday at the MSU Auditorium, then Aerosmith (chosen in 2001) Friday at the Breslin Center.

Then came the news Wednesday that Aerosmith was canceling its show....

People can grumble about that or shrug it off: This is still a great week for music. Besides, King is the star who led to Aerosmith and more. Consider a two-step process:

-- Aerosmith loved the Rolling Stones. "To say I worshipped the Stones was an understatement," singer Steven Tyler once wrote.

Tyler is delighted to admit his four kids are all huge fans of his and go out of their way to attend his shows. He reveals, "I look down and there's Liv, Chelsea and Mia and Taj sitting down there in the barricade, where everybody's leaning up against... That's all I see. "I look down and I see Mia (pulling faces) and Liv (giving me the finger)....

Contract negotiations between management at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza and the stagehands union won’t halt the venue’s March 15 Aerosmith concert.


There had been concern among arena officials a stalemate in negotiations could lead to a strike, but arena general manager Rebecca Bonnevier and a union official said Tuesday (3-7-06) there won’t be any problems with the upcoming show.

The management company for the arena, SMG, and Local 82 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees representing the stagehands, are working under the terms of a four-year bargaining agreement that expired Dec. 31.

“On Monday (3-6-06) we had discussions with them (Local 82), and they were planning on being here for Aerosmith,” Bonnevier said. “We owe it to Northeastern Pennsylvania to make sure the show goes on....”

Joseph K. Jacobs, the business representative for Local 82, agreed with Bonnevier, saying, “There’s never been that fear (of a strike before the Aerosmith concert) at all.”

Local 82 represents 100 stage crew members in Wilkes-Barre, including stage hands, riggers, sound and light equipment operators, prop men and fly men. The members perform concert staging work at the arena and the Kirby Center. The pay scale for members ranges from $16 to $25 per hour under the previous contract....

Aging rockers are supposed to act like garage mechanics who’ve been hit on the head by too many falling torque wrenches.

But Perry – the longtime guitarist for Aerosmith – is thoughtful, humble, eloquent and honest.

Aerosmith performs Friday at the Jack Breslin Arena in East Lansing, Mich.

Perry is not offended by comparisons to dinosaurs, and he has an answer for people who wonder how old is too old in the milieu of arena rock.

“It’s not like we’re pro athletes,” Perry said in a phone interview. “It’s not as if we ever get to the point where we can’t physically do it anymore.

“As long as you modify your style, you can keep doing it as long as you want.”

Not only has Perry kept doing it, but he has kept doing it well enough to earn some accolades.

“Mercy,” a track from Perry’s self-titled solo album, was nominated for best rock instrumental performance at the most recent Grammy awards.

Perry says he was stunned and flattered by the nomination.

“It meant that somebody had really listened to the album, had actually dug down and listened to a track that was just a personal favorite of mine. It wasn’t a lead track.

“I was flattered just to be put on that list,” he says. “I mean, Steve Vie, Adrian Belew and Les Paul! It was great.”

Perry says it was strange to see his name projected on a giant awards show viewscreen.

“I was so used to having it be Aerosmith up there,” he says. “If anybody’s singled out, it’s usually a singer.”

Perry is one of those rare bandmates who has never nursed long-term self-promotional plans. He loves Aerosmith and values it more with each passing year.

“I think we really learned a big lesson back in the late ’70s and early ’80s,” he says. “We let fans down in a big way. We went out and collapsed on stage or didn’t show up. We didn’t put out the best records we could. We let fans down, and we let ourselves down. We let go of our own dream and our own reason for doing all this.”

Perry says all the old hits, such as “Dream On,” are “still magic to him.”

“I stand next to Steven (Tyler) when he delivers that high note,” he says, “and I get goose bumps every night. He hits it a little different every night, and I play the guitar parts a little different every night.”

The members of Aerosmith have to keep topping themselves because the fans expect it, Perry says.

“We just don’t phone it in,” he says. “It would be so easy to go out there with tapes. For me, it is so important fans know they’re getting our undivided attention.

“They’d know in a heartbeat if we were faking it in any way,” Perry says.

Whenever Perry feels his songwriting skills getting stale, he tries a little trick that producer Rick Rubin taught him.

“Rick said, ‘Take all the songs that turned you on to rock and roll as a kid, make a cassette, and listen to it non-stop for a few days.’ It puts me back in touch with why I got into this in the first place.”

"It's pretty flipped out, but in a way we kind of saw it coming. Patterns repeat. You have to go to Point A to get to Point B in the future. The music itself, that hard rock, was almost dangerous in a way. It defined what was going on at the time. I think that is always going to appeal to adolescent males and the melodies for the girls," Hamilton says....

Aerosmith, along with the Rolling Stones and Kiss, are among the elite group of artists continuing to transcend generation after generation. These bands have remained staples on the charts and store shelves. Merchandise has kept pace with, and often outsold, many of today's hottest acts....

Classic-rock icons Aerosmith, the Steve Miller Band, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar and Eighties hair-metal veterans Cheap Trick lead the lineup of the first Rock'N the Rally music festival in Sturgis, South Dakota, August 6th through 10th.

Among others slated to perform are REO Speedwagon, Foghat, Deep Purple, John Kay with Steppenwolf, Shooter Jennings, .38 Special and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Additional artists will be announced soon.

Some artists prefer the comfort of the studio, enveloped in coziness and creative chi. Others are warriors of the land, nomadic in nature and slaves to the grind.

For Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton, the rock star offers a balance of both.

"I still look forward to the old adventure part of it -- going out on the road with your friends. I love hotel rooms and room service. I have my basses and my laptop with me. If I come up with a riff I like, I can record it and keep it for later. It's that in between time that you have to make the effort to take your playing to the next level," he says.

Hamilton and his band mates, known to the world as Aerosmith, recently hit the road to support their new live album "Rockin' the Joint." It's is a fitting tribute to the band's longevity and colored career spanning three decades.

A grueling touring regimen and life on the road, despite its many riches, also means leaving behind your loved ones.

"I hate those days when I have to say goodbye to my wife and kids. The road can be very isolating at times," Hamilton says.

By now, most fans know the story of how Aerosmith rose to fame in the mid-'70s after a string of successful albums and hit singles; of how drug addiction and tension tore the band apart; and how a chance collaboration with Run-DMC and the birth of the MTV generation brought the band out of the dark and back into the light for millions of fans around the world.

What most people don't know is that even with all the fan adulation, awards, critical praise and respect from peers, and all the musicians they've inspired, Aerosmith remains humble -- and slightly mystified -- by its success.

"If I knew what it was, I'd bottle it up we still have that desire to be in a band. When we broke up (from 1979-84) we got a real taste for the alternative. When we got back together, we helped each other face our demons," Hamilton says.

From the raunchy blues boogie of "Big Ten Inch Record," "Mama Kin" and "Train Kept-a-Rolling" to their more friendly power ballads "Dream On," "Angel" and "Amazing," Aerosmith's music maintains no boundary and offers no pretense.

"In the '70s our audience was 90 percent general admission and 90 percent drunk, topless males. It's not like that anymore. Our audience now is more -- sophisticated I guess is the best way to describe it," Hamilton says.

While most bands fade from the public eye after an album or two, Aerosmith has managed to stay fresh, both musically and visually, for more than three decades. Don't let the videos or endorsement deals fool you, the music has always been at the heart of the band's success.

"For a long time, I rejected the idea of it the whole image thing; standing in front of a mirror and all that. But, it's part of the job. We're still music fans and we still have that kind of outlook with other people's music," Hamilton says.

While fans can expect standard classics like "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion," to be played at full volume, the Aerosmith plans to mix things up by tossing in rare cuts and back catalog goodies.

"Our set is very esoteric. Different nights we're going to be playing different songs from the different eras - 'Kings and Queens' is a blast to play live. I love those kinds of dynamics in a song; quiet, dreamy parts and then you're struck over the head with this loud rock. We really try to milk that kind of dynamic," Hamilton says.

While some classic rock bands continue to tour after what seems like their second, third or even fourth "reunion," Hamilton assures fans there is no need to worry; Aerosmith has no intentions of packing up anytime soon.

"There is no way to predict how long the band will keep going. We're not giving up, so don't you (the fans) give up," Hamilton says.

In the midst of a 2002 tour behind the CD “Just Push Play,” Aerosmith decided to play one small venue show – at the 3,000-capacity Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas – in January of that year.

For that evening, Aerosmith brushed off several older tunes that had rarely made it into the live set, including “Seasons of Wither,” “Same Old Song and Dance” and “No More No More.”

Those songs are now captured on the band’s latest CD/DVD release, “Rockin’ The Joint: Live At The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas.” The CD side includes a dozen tracks from that show, while the DVD side of the disc is supplemented with four additional performances, including the hits “Dream On” and “Sweet Emotion.”

The band had filmed and recorded that one-night show for possible release, but according to Joe Perry, the results of that evening exceeded even his greatest expectations.

“(Singer) Steven (Tyler) was really listening to the tapes every day,” Perry said. “I was totally expecting him to come back and say ‘Look we’ve got probably five songs from ‘Rockin’ The Joint,’ but we’ve got to fill it in with stuff from other nights.’ ”

Instead, what Perry heard was a single show where the performances were strong from start to finish – without the major or minor flubs that can frequently occur when a song is played live – and a special energy that surrounded the evening.

“Listening down to the whole thing, it was kind of ‘Well this was amazing,’ ” he said. “It’s all from one night, and not playing songs we play every night. It’s not like we played the regular set. So we went in there with the extra care we were thinking of, probably did a couple of sound checks before and rehearsed some of those songs, and there you have it. So that’s what makes it, to me, a really unique set of music … So what you get is you hear that energy. You hear that energy from the show build in a way that isn’t artificial.”

The ecstatic reception the audience gave to the material Aerosmith played at the Joint that night is having a direct effect on the show the veteran Boston band is taking on the road this winter on the second leg of an arena tour.

“Seeing the response that we’ve gotten from fans to the songs in the set that comprises that record, that’s going to influence pulling some out that we haven’t played in awhile or have never played,” Perry said. “I think, the one thing we did realize is there are so many songs in our catalog that I think are really good songs that may have slipped through the cracks or just never got played live or just over the years have been put aside because we felt some of the other material, because they were hits on MTV or whatever, got the most focus. There are a lot of songs there we should gather up and put in the set and make them a main part of the set instead, of going out and writing a bunch of new stuff. I think that’s kind of the idea for this leg of the tour anyway.”

The return to the road signals the start of a new round of activity for Aerosmith after a year-long break. After the winter tour, the group plans to enter the studio in the spring to begin work on a new studio CD.

“After a hiatus it always seems to make sense for us to play live first and get the machine up and running and get our (vibe) going and then talk about some studio work,” Perry said. “I don’t know, it just seems to work out that way.”

While the other band members essentially had a full year to relax before reconvening for the current tour, Perry was anything but idle. He devoted several months to recording and promoting a self-titled solo CD that was released in spring 2005. His first project outside of Aerosmith since the late 1970s, when he quit the group and fronted his band, the Joe Perry Project, for three albums, “Joe Perry” is made up of a collection of songs he had written over the past several years while also working on Aerosmith albums.

The CD finds the guitarist playing nearly every instrument except drums, which were played by co-producer Paul Caruso – an approach that came about mostly out of necessity.

“It kind of got to that point where it was getting into the fall (of 2004) and I had all the material done, and I had performed everything (on demos),” Perry said. “I’m thinking, ‘Well do I go into the studio with a so-called real producer and just notch this up, so to speak, or do I do a real solo record?’ And I was looking at my watch, and I was really having a lot of fun listening to the (demo) tracks, so I said ‘Paul, let’s finish mixing it and see what we have.’ So that’s what we did. Then we mastered it and it sounded good coming back, and that was it. I figured I’d make a solo record for a change, in the true sense of the word.”

Everything was in place. The stage had been constructed. Soundcheck was complete. The only thing missing was the band. Unfortunately, that part never materialized.

With just over two hours to go before showtime, veteran rock troupe Aerosmith cancelled its performance tonight at Rupp Arena, leaving some 9,000 ticket holders with an unexpectedly free evening.

The reason: illness on the part of singer Steven Tyler. The performance will not be rescheduled. Tickets refunds, which began tonight at the Rupp box office, will be available at point of purchase.

While the nature of Tyler's illness was not disclosed, Aerosmith also called off its last scheduled concert (a Sunday show in Pensacola, Fla.) because the singer was unable to perform. But as of Tuesday morning, all signs were a go that the Rupp outing would proceed.

"We had an 11 a.m. phone call telling us he (Tyler) was fine," said Carl Hall, director of arena management at Rupp. "Everybody breathed a sign of relief. Then the sigh became a gasp. The band was flying here, they were in the air, when whatever was going wrong with Steve Tyler messed up again."

So at 5:15 p.m. today, roughly 15 minutes before the band's scheduled arrival time in Lexington, the concert was called off. The Aerosmith members flew back to their home base of Boston.

Opening act Cheap Trick was already at Rupp when the cancellation was made.

"Everything was done," Hall said of show preparations. "The road crew was eating dinner when we found out."

Coincidentally, this isn't the first time Aerosmith bailed on a Rupp show due to Tyler's ill health. The band also cancelled a November 2001 performance less than 48 hours before showtime.

The festival, to be staged around the giant Sturgis Bike Week that draws thousands to the area, is produced by Dork Fish, Inc.

Dork Fish is in the process of building an $11 million permanent amphitheatre on a 34-acre site at the Glencoe Camp Resort in Sturgis. Capacity will be as high as 60,000. "As opposed to the 'build it and they will come' theory, we subscribe to the 'build it where they already are theory'," Dork Fish production manager/site coordinator Mark Russo tells Billboard.com.

Tickets range from $40 to $70 per day and go on sale on March 10 at Starticketsplus.com.

The band has survived crippling addictions, outlived music industry trends and seen audience appeal passed down through generations.

But it wasn't until Aerosmith was preparing to return to Rupp Arena on Tuesday that bassist Tom Hamilton considered another milestone for the warhorse rock band he has played with since its inception more than 35 years ago.

"I love it that a place like Rupp still has the same name it had when we first played there," Hamilton said. "But you know what's really funny? A lot of the places that were new when we started touring in the '70s aren't just being renamed. They're being torn down. So on top of everything else, Aerosmith has now outlasted most of the buildings we've played in."

Such is the power of songs like Sweet Emotion, Dream On and Walk This Way as well as the appeal of a band that, aside from a period in the early '80s when drug and money problems were at their worst, has retained the same personnel lineup. At the heart of such a prominent and pioneering rock force, though, are musicians who still find their greatest artistic thrills by playing live.

"That's where you get the reward of being in the game," Hamilton said. "You're in there participating with what's going on in the present day. I still set goals for myself musically. They have to do with all the different aspects of being in a band. I always want to make what we do better. As long as you have that mind-set, you won't get stale. You only have to worry about that when you get this jaded attitude that you've made it, that you're established and that you can pretty much go and do the same thing for as long as you want. That, to me, is living death."

Perhaps the band's work ethic comes from the fact Aerosmith was far from an immediate success when its self-titled debut album was released in 1972.

"When the first album came out, we weren't getting much airplay," Hamilton recalled. "So the record company said, 'Your next record better be good, or that's it for you guys.' And ultimately, we were told that in order to make it, we needed to tour. And tour and tour and tour.

"We didn't have MTV then. We didn't have newspapers writing about us, except to report how many arrests there were at our concerts. That's just the way you did it in those days. If you didn't have a hit single, you got out on the road."

When Rupp opened in 1976, Aerosmith had released most of its initial hits and had become an unstoppable force on commercial radio. By the time the band played Rupp Arena after the release of 1977's Draw the Line, the lifestyles afforded by years of stardom were taking their toll, and guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford exited by the end of the decade. The members cleaned up and reconciled for a reunion tour in 1985. But achieving a full creative rebirth, Hamilton insisted, was far tougher.

"It's not something that was just luck. It was the product of a lot of effort, angst and longing. When we put the band back together, we found we still played pretty well on tour. But when it was time to do a record ... well, our creative process just needed work. We needed to break the old structures down."

Enter a reworked version of Walk This Way with veteran rap act Run D.M.C. and a pair of revitalized late '80s albums (Permanent Vacation and Pump) that introduced Aerosmith to the MTV generation. The subsequent string of popular records and tours continues to this day. So successful has its second life been, in fact, that Aerosmith was been able to indulge itself by recording a blues album (2004's Honkin' on Bobo) and talking a full year off touring. It hit the road again last fall with Lenny Kravitz as opening act. Fellow rockers Cheap Trick have the support slot on the tour's final dates before work begins on a new Aerosmith recording this spring.

"I still feel we have this challenge out there that we need to face and get started on," Hamilton said. "That's what it always feels like when we talk about making a new studio record.

"Usually, when you finish an album, you wish you could do the whole thing again because you start to realize, in looking back, what you could have done better. So you keep that feeling in your heart for the next time you start work on an album. That becomes your starting point. You go from there."

Aerosmith Live in Anaheim

As a fan of live music since birth, I have gone to hundreds of concerts, seen just about everybody who I’ve wanted to see that wasn’t dead already. With the exception of Led Zeppelin, the only band that I can think of that I love and have never seen, has been, up until this past Friday, Aerosmith.

My first attempt at seeing them was sometime in the mid-seventies and the reason for not going was because (and this ought to date me) either I or the ticket-bearer was grounded by parents for doing something like getting caught smoking, or skipping school. Shows you how long these guys have been rocking. And ROCK they still do, as well as just about anyone out there.

Aerosmith has been referred to by some as the American version of the Rolling Stones, but, you know what? They still have the original lineup intact, and that’s something the Stones haven’t had since the late 1960’s. I’ll spare you the comparisons, they have been written about many times before. What I witnessed at this show was a timeless but complete soundtrack for the last 3/4ths of my life....

Launch Radio Networks reports: Aerosmith resumes their latest tour tonight (Thursday, March 2) in Hollywood, Florida, with Cheap Trick along as the opening act. Lead guitarist Joe Perry told Launch he hopes that for this leg of the tour and the rest of the year, Aerosmith will continue digging into their catalog for rarely-played gems. "One of the things that I've noticed at this end of a 35-year career, as with a lot of other bands — there's not a lot of us out there — but there are a lot of albums and a lot of album cuts that the band likes hearing," he said.

Aerosmith has 21 dates scheduled for their latest tour, which ends April 15 in Sacramento, California.

Their latest release is the concert set "Rockin' The Joint (Live At The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas)", which was recorded at a January 2002 show. It's available on both CD and DVD.

Perry said that Aerosmith hopes to start working on a new album in the spring. It will be their first studio project since 2004's "Honkin' On Bobo".

The DVD contains a cut by cut run through of all 12 tracks on Queen's 1975 album, plus interviews with guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon and producer Roy Thomas Baker, archival performance footage, interviews with Freddie Mercury, and comments from such rock luminaries as Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and Mott The Hoople’s Ian Hunter. The DVD also features brand new acoustic performances of “’39” and “Love Of My Life” by May, and a special drum and acoustic demonstration of “I’m In Love With My Car” by Roger Taylor.

For over three decades, Aerosmith have been one of rock's most revered and popular bands, crafting classic songs full of raw guitar runs and intensely energetic vocals. The band first reached fame in the 1970’s with a string of hits including "Dream On," "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way."

During this period, Aerosmith's music defied easy categorization, falling somewhere between hard rock/blues and early punk, with occasional power ballads here and there....
