"Fever Pitch" - the Film 85 Years in the Making - for Red Sox Fans, Anyway - Breaks Curse of the Bambino... Celebrates with Gala Premiere at Fenway Park

Boston--(Business Wire)--The new motion picture "Fever Pitch" began production last year. But many Red Sox fans feel like it's been 85 years in the making, since the romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon could have helped break the infamous Curse of the Bambino. So it seems only natural that the "curse-lifting" film has its gala premiere at Boston's fabled Fenway Park, on April 6, in front of thousands of cheering Red Sox and movie fans.....

Other notables expected to attend the event are Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), Boston mayor Thomas M. Menino, Boston natives Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, players from the New England Patriots and Boston Celtics, plus Bill Murray, Johnny Knoxville and Aerosmith....."Fever Pitch" opens nationwide April 8th.

From Joe's Biography Page at Sony...

Sony Music
March 28, 2005

...The album's 13 tracks include 11 new Joe Perry original compositions as well as covers of the Doors' "The Crystal Ship" and Woody Guthrie's "Vigilante Man."

"I'm a Doors fan," says Joe regarding the decision to revisit Mister Mojo Risin's dark amphetamine musings. "I can remember cruising in my car somewhere and listening to this. I started singing along with the song and I thought this would be an awesome one to cover. It's in that range of vocalizing that I like."

The inspiration behind Joe's Woody Guthrie cover comes from both musical and political sources. As a fan of Ry Cooder, Joe was drawn to Cooder's arrangement of the song on his 1971 masterpiece, Into The Purple Valley. "I'm a slide player," says Joe, "and Ry is the slide player's slide player." And the deep lyrical content of "Vigilante Man" hit Joe with its contemporary urgency. "This particular song struck me as being really appropriate for the times we're in now," Joe continues. "I put it on the record as a metaphor for what' going on in the world today, taking in everybody from the 'Saddam Husseins' to some of the things that America does, to the cop that walks down the street and thinks he's the be-all and end-all. There's the old saying that power corrupts and absolute power destroys. And that's what happens when people violently tend to take the law into their own hands....."

Mötley Crüe: The nonstop party that is the life of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee for about the past 20 years gets cranked up several notches on his upcoming solo album, Tommyland: The Ride, which is due in August...Lee's third solo album will be released to coincide with his NBC reality show, "Tommy Lee Goes to College," which he said recently got bumped up from a summer replacement to a fall show, due to the positive feedback. Summer Concerts Stage A Comeback

The Victoria Advocate, TX
March 24, 2005

This year, the concert industry is taking drastic steps to make music lovers feel welcome again. Some of those measures include revamping customer service and finding ways to improve the concertgoer's experience. More significant are moves to slash ticket prices.

"Everything is trending toward fan empowerment, or consumer empowerment," says Ray Waddell, a senior writer at Billboard magazine who tracks concerts....Now Clear Channel, the country's largest concert promoter, is taking action to lower the face value of tickets on its end. The company, which was unable to provide an executive for comment, announced that it will no longer charge a "facility fee" at its amphitheaters....At the annual Concert Industry Consortium conference, which was held in February, talk centered on how to improve customer service and make the concert experience more enjoyable.

Artists are taking some steps of their own to shore up sales by giving consumers more bands for their buck. Many musicians are resorting to the tried and true tactic of linking up with other groups that appeal to a similar demographic. Stevie Nicks and Don Henley are headlining a tour, as are Boston/Styx, Oasis/Jet, Judas Priest/Queensryche, and Def Leppard/Bryan Adams. There are also rumors of blockbuster pairings such as Audioslave/System of a Down, Van Halen/Aerosmith, and Kenny Chesney/Gretchen Wilson.

"People are a little bit gun-shy after last year, so there's nothing wrong with co-headlining with someone or building up your bill to offer more value," says Waddell. In all, he is optimistic that the industry can overcome its problems. "It's nothing that a hot tour, priced right, can't overcome."

Walkin' This Way

Palm Beach Post
March 23, 2005

Even with a wrinkle or two, 57-year-old Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler still looks like a rock star while visiting the West Palm Beach Boat Show Sunday afternoon. "Dude, I'm lost," he told our shutterbug, who then showed him to the exit.

Tyler was spotted by Page Two spies all over the area during the past week, including buying strawberries at Publix on Southern Boulevard in WPB on March 13, hanging outside the Gulfstream Hotel in Lake Worth on Friday and at the boat show Saturday and Sunday.

Ten Best MTV Moments

New York Daily News
March 23, 2005

Most networks shy away from controversy, but MTV revels in it. Over the last 23 years, the channel has crafted a multitude of the most obnoxious, over-the-top (and occasionally inspiring) moments in pop culture history. Here's a definitive list of the landmark events that simultaneously defined MTV and America.

10. The Smooch Seen 'Round the World (2003)

In an utterly calculated moment of "shock TV," Madonna plants big, wet, tongue-tinged kisses on Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. The media go wild, but for once nobody really seems to care - not even the Christian right. In the wake of this desperate plea for attention, all three see their careers plummet.

9. "Unplugged" (1989)

Umm, does anybody really want to hear Aerosmith rock out on acoustic guitars? Turns out the answer is, "Totally!" Everyone from Lauryn Hill to Eric Clapton to Duran Duran drops their amps, turntables and synthesizers and gets mellow. Unplugged albums become big business and some, like Nirvana's and Jay-Z's, become classics.....

'School House Rocks'

Peace Games
March 22, 2005

Our 2nd Annual School House Rocks Event on Friday, March 4th at the Westin Hotel Copley Place was a tremendous success...

Boston - Our 2nd Annual School House Rocks Event was an A-plus! Guests were welcomed with a "school schedule," bid on amazing silent auction items, participated in "art" and "gym class," danced the night away to the sounds of the James Montgomery Band accompanied by Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith and Doug Flutie, and won live auction items including a date with Rhona Mitra and a day on the set with Orlando Bloom! We raised significant funding to support new schools in Boston and are already looking forward to next year's event!

1st Annual School House Rocks (was) hosted by Terry and Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith at Shreve, Crump, and Lowe in April 2003. The highly successful evening included games, an exciting auction, and gourmet versions of favorite food from childhood.

Da Vinci Code

Not long after "The Da Vinci Code" was published, he got a call from Steven Tyler, the lead singer of Aerosmith, who read "The Da Vinci Code" and liked it. Mr. Brown and his wife, Blythe, have long been Aerosmith fans, and Mr. Tyler offered tickets to a concert.

The performance, it turns out, was filmed as part of the John Travolta movie "Be Cool." In the film's concert scene, there in the front row, shouting adoringly and clapping along, is Dan Brown, getting more screen time than most of the band and even some of the film's actors.

Leave Town? Dream On

The Boston Globe
March 20, 2005

Local bonds won't be broken by new Vt. farm, Aerosmith guitarist says

DUXBURY -- When Joe Perry, lead guitarist for the legendary rock band Aerosmith, recently bought a farm in Vermont, many in Duxbury wondered if the longtime local resident was leaving town for good.

The answer is no, at least for now. The Perry home is not for sale.

''It may end up that we are keeping the house," Joe Perry said. ''We spend so much time on the road. . . . If you count days where you spend the time, a lot were not in this state. We've made Duxbury our home base, and now we're spending time in Vermont."

On a recent morning, Perry and his wife, Billie, were at their Duxbury home with their 13-year-old son, Roman. They had finished moving some of their belongings 175 miles north to their new digs. It has been a difficult process, Billie said, because they are not ready to say goodbye to Duxbury.

''We have so many memories here," she said. ''It's the longest we've lived in one place. We've raised our children here. It's near and dear to our hearts. That's why we're hesitant to move to Vermont."

The Perrys moved to the South Shore town in 1988. Their 8-acre gated compound includes a main house, a guest house, barn, garages, and ponds. One of their sons may move into the guest house.

''Over the next six months we'll be here and I'll have the studio downstairs," said Perry, who will release a self-titled solo album May 3 that was recorded in the basement studio, known as the Boneyard.

As a band, Aerosmith is taking a break until the fall, and ''looking forward to a great tour, and a couple new albums," he said.

Perry frequents Farfar's Danish Ice Cream Shop on St. George Street, which features a flavor called Aerochip. But he and Billie have made their presence known in other ways, too.

If they leave, it would be ''an enormous loss for the town," said Annie Eldridge, a member of Friends of the Duxbury Animal Shelter.

In 1998, the Perrys donated $25,000 to the town for a new animal shelter. The couple threw the first shovel-full of dirt at the ground-breaking ceremony in December 2004.

''Their dedication to animal welfare causes inspired the Friends of the Duxbury Animal Shelter to get moving and eventually make this project happen," said Eldridge. ''It's remarkable that celebrities of the Perrys' caliber have taken such an interest in town affairs and activities, and Duxbury is a better place thanks to their efforts."

That same year, Perry donated an autographed guitar to the Duxbury Rotary Club auction. Signed by all five members of Aerosmith, it sold for $12,000 and helped the Fire Department buy thermal imaging equipment for use in smoke-filled buildings.

In May 2003 Perry donated two guitars to the Duxbury schools, and the family has contributed to the Ellison Center for the Arts on St. George Street.

The Perrys have always kept plenty of horses, cats, and dogs. They were among the first people in the area to own Friesian horses, a breed known for its flowing black mane, tail, and fetlocks. On a recent morning, Billie Perry was outside petting two of the horses, Franz and Orion. She lifted up the long, flowing mane on one of the horses and joked, ''Now this is rock star hair."

Perry is not the only member of Aerosmith to settle on the South Shore. Fellow guitarist Brad Whitford once lived in Duxbury, and later bought homes in nearby Norwell and Marshfield. Singer Steven Tyler and drummer Joey Kramer have homes in Marshfield.

Perry and Tyler also became restaurateurs. In 1997, they joined with Lee Kennedy and Jayne Bowe to open Mount Blue, a hip restaurant at 707 Main St. in Norwell. The restaurant's shop, named after Aerosmith's 1975 album ''Toys in the Attic," sells band memorabilia and Joe Perry's Rock Your World sauces.

Perry has described Duxbury as his ''haven," a place where he could go about his business without being hounded for autographs. Besides a handful of fence-peepers, most people have respected their privacy, he said.

The Perrys' home features funky decor, which Billie Perry describes as ''rich Bohemian meets folk countryside." Family photos and guitars are common sights in most rooms. There are also stained-glass windows based on some of her drawings. Near one staircase, guitar necks and headstocks are nailed along the railing as balusters.

An enormous hippopotamus skull is on display in a hallway. Billie Perry bought it from an antique store in neighboring Kingston as a Christmas gift for her husband. A huge sign from the Hotel Avery, which Joe Perry describes as an architectural artifact from Boston's Combat Zone, hangs on a wall.

A 10-foot-long aquarium stands in the living room, and game trophies -- deer, rams, and other wild game -- adorn the wall above the stone fireplace. Three beeswax candles in a candelabra and a glass bowl filled with seashells stand in front of the hearth. Between them lies the furry skin from a kangaroo's tail they bought in Australia. The skins are sold in many Aussie shops, because kangaroos are rampant. ''They're like squirrels here . . . annoying," said Joe.

Inside the spacious kitchen, behind a pantry door, is the entrance to the Boneyard. As he opened the door, Joe Perry said, ''This is a different world."

Stairs covered in leopard print carpeting lead to the recording studio, which is equipped with the latest computer hardware as well as a vintage soundboard Joe Perry salvaged from the basement of WGBH radio in Boston.

''I recorded my solo record here," he said.

It is also where Perry and his bandmates wrote the lyrics for songs like ''Cryin'," ''Crazy," and ''Livin' on the Edge," recorded in Los Angeles and Vancouver.

Much of Aerosmith's 2001 album ''Just Push Play" was recorded here, as was their latest album, ''Honkin' on Bobo."

''It wasn't our plan," Perry said. ''The band has a studio that we record in up in Hanover. We've set up a space up there. Unfortunately it wasn't finished in time to do most of 'Honkin' on Bobo.' But to have a band here every day during that summer, it was the most fun experience. Every day the guys would roll up in whatever they were driving that day, and [after recording] we'd go ride 4-wheelers or motorcycles. It was great experience. It reminded me of the records we recorded in the 1970s."

They will likely make Vermont their legal residence, but do not plan to cut their ties to the South Shore anytime soon. Perry also owns property in New Hampshire and Florida.

Unless the band breaks up -- which Joe Perry said won't happen -- ''the South Shore will always be a big part of our life," said Billie Perry.

"Nothing is cooler than 'Be Cool'. Even 'Get Shorty' falls short to its sequel.

'Be Cool' includes many cool things: great footage of an Aerosmith concert; a timeless cast ensemble; a dance scene featuring Uma Thurman, Jon Travolta and the Black Eyed Peas; and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson playing a Samoan man who loves to wear red and touch his buttocks. This movie is more than just cool, it's bitchin'....."

"...By the end of 1997, Rose’s bandmates had resigned Guns N’Roses, a five-strong cast of rebels...Tom Maher, a manager once connected with the band, told me how he organised for the group to be counselled by their peers: Keith Richards and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. 'But even that didn’t work out.' Maher laughed loudly, remembering the incredulity of having Richards and Tyler take on the guise of peacekeepers. 'I mean, if you’re not gonna listen to Keith or Steve, who are you gonna listen to?'....."

Or...

"...The Prime Minister (Tony Blair) is reading a book called Naughty Parents with his four-year-old son Leo, and relaxes by listening to Aerosmith and U2, he has said in an interview with a Welsh radio station. He told listeners to Swansea Sound that the Blairs were 'amazingly like any other family', adding: 'We don't sit around the breakfast table discussing the Government's medium-term financial strategy.' Lightning In A Bottle

Sydney Morning Herald, Australia
March 16, 2005

(Aerosmith's Steve Tyler, left, and Joe Perry sing the blues)

Film Review

"...'Lightning in a Bottle' is a simple film, but it has lofty ambitions. On the one hand it's a straightforward account of a concert held at New York's Radio City Music Hall on February 7, 2003, featuring blues artists B.B. King, Angelique Kidjo, Buddy Guy, Macy Gray, Steve Tyler, Ruth Brown, and many more. On the other hand, the film - like the concert - aims to provide a comprehensive account of the blues' history. As Martin Scorsese, one of the film's executive producers, says in his introduction, the idea is 'to tell the story of this music'....

Other highlights are unexpected: Mavis Staples singing Blind Lemon Jefferson's haunting See That My Grave is Kept Clean; India.Arie performing Lewis Allan's Strange Fruit; and Aerosmith's resident hip-wriggler, Steve Tyler, who is improbably captivating. There are lulls too, of course, but surprisingly few...."

Steven's Input for Cell Phone Tour - Producer's Comments

Walk This Way: Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler offers guiding voice for Boston tourists

...Aerosmith frontman and longtime Marshfield resident Steven Tyler was the first choice of New York-based Candide Media Works to narrate "Boston: City of Rebels & Dreamers," a self-guided cell phone tour of 17 Hub attractions from Fenway Park to the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge. "Lemme show you my town," Tyler whoops as he shows callers around the downtown sites, weaving history, wisecracks and personal asides into two-minute narratives at each stop.....

When producers arrived at Tyler's Marshfield home last summer to tape the tour, he looked over the script and used his lyrical instincts to smooth over the rough edges.

"He's got a great ear," (Executive Producer Miles) Kronby said. "Often when he was reading through the scripts, he'd say, 'Don't say it this way - say it this other way.' He was always right."

Tyler also injected some irreverent humor into the tour's somber corners. Explaining that executions on Boston Common were a form of public entertainment in the 1700s, Tyler cracked, "If Aerosmith had been around 300 years ago, we would have been the opening act."...

Performing With Aerosmith was Highlight of Christina Milian's Life

Blabbermouth.net
March 13, 2005

No amount of show-business savvy could prevent jitters leading up to the most demanding scene for Christina Milian in "Be Cool" — a duet with Steven Tyler on "Cryin'", performed at a real-life Aerosmith concert. "I was really intimidated going in to do that with him," Milian admitted to Bob Strauss of the Los Angeles Daily News. "He's been doing it for a while, plus I come from more of a history of R&B pop music. Going in to do a rock song that's his own, in front of an audience of 30,000 people that were there to see an Aerosmith concert in Boston.... But actually, I'd say it was the highlight of my whole life. We shot it three times in the middle of their show, and every single time, the chemistry that Steven and I had was so natural as performers, it just felt so good. The energy that we got from each other — on one microphone! I, like, want to be a rock star!" Read more.

Serving Up a Taste of Italy With Pizzazz

Times of India
March 13, 2005

"New Delhi: For a boy who began making an egg for his breakfast at the age of five, Paolo Gagliardi sure has come a long way. 'I always wanted to cook. If not a chef, I would’ve become a bartender. Indian food excites me. I love tandoori but I haven’t tried cooking it yet,' he says smiling. The visiting chef has been flown in from Milan for a food promotion at a hotel here.....He is no stranger to famous people. With satisfied clients such as designers Valentino, Dolce and Gabanna, Armani and Donatella Versace, musicians such as Bryan Adams, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Idol and beautiful people like Diana Ross and Naomi Campbell, his job is most envied. 'They’re all simple people,' he reveals.

'Most of them like being left alone, don’t enjoy talking much. Then, there are some like Steven Tyler who just walk around the restaurant shaking hands with people,' reminisces the master chef. And do famous people come with their equally famous companions? 'They all come with bodyguards,' he laughs.

While Bryan Adams loves pizza cooked only by the Italian chef, Steven Tyler prefers pasta and Eric Clapton generally opts for vegetable lasagna....."

Send us your vision of the Easter Bunny, with some Aerosmith swagger. You can send a drawing, a photo, stuffed animal, the Easter basket, the Easter egg, whatever resembles Easter but clearly came from the Big Huge Rockin’ Easter Bunny, not the little pink-and-yellow cotton tail Easter Bunny.

Quick Hits: Aerosmith

FMQB Magazine, NJ
March 11, 2005

"Aerosmith will head out on tour this fall. Guitarist Joe Perry told Billboard the veteran Rock band is also attempting to choose a live show from the past to release as a CD/DVD. Aerosmith will likely begin working on a new studio release 'sometime next year,' says Perry."

Thursday, March 10, 2005

Aerosmith Gears Up For Tour, Live Set

Aerosmith will reconvene in late August or early September to prepare for a tour that will begin in the fall, guitarist Joe Perry tells Billboard.com. The group has also begun sifting through material for a prospective live CD/DVD. "We're trying to find a show that has been recorded from beginning to end," Perry says. "That's something the fans have been requesting: a stone cold live record with a video."

"Some of the shows we're looking at are from the last year, but who knows," the guitarist continues. "We just heard about somebody who had a bunch of tapes from 1972. It might be fun to watch some of that on the B-side."

As for the follow-up to 2004's blues-inspired collection "Honkin' on Bobo," Perry reveals that Aerosmith will try to return to the studio "during a break in the tour sometime next year." And while "Bobo" was recorded at Perry's basement studio, the Boneyard, the next set will likely be put to tape in a new facility the band built within their Boston-based office.

"On the one hand, it was a lot of fun to do it here, but the studio is truly in the basement," Perry says. "It's right in the house, so the drums just thunder. The whole family is involved [laughs]. For countless nights, they would go to bed hearing the band rocking out downstairs. That was a dream come true; to come full circle from having a garage band in the basement of my parents' house to doing the same thing with Aerosmith now."

"The one limitation we have is the size," he continues. "We have to record in a style where we're limited to one way of playing. What we did by putting the other studio in is allow a lot more flexibility for drum and guitar sounds. The next project we do we'll definitely do the majority of it there, but I'll probably do guitars here. I have some great old stuff here that they don't have there."

As previously reported, Perry utilized the free time since Aerosmith's last round of touring to complete his self-titled solo debut, due May 3 via Columbia. Without revealing specifics, he hinted that the upcoming projects may encompass Aerosmith's final bout of major activity.

"We're closer to the end than the beginning, and again, that's part of why I wanted to put this record out," he says. "I don't know how long we're going to keep going, but I feel really good about it. I really wanted to get it out. I don't know if I'll be as excited about putting out solo records or even going out on the road in five years. Time goes by fast."

The Tattoo on Uma's Bottom and Other "Be Cool" Notes

Aero Force One
March 10, 2005

In the hotly anticipated film "Be Cool," which opened nationwide Friday night, Uma Thurman's character, Edie, sports a familiar wings symbol on a sexy part of her body. The vintage Aerosmith tattoo is a symbol of the time when Edie followed the band on tour. She remembers the time fondly - she never "got it on" with any of the guys, but instead did their laundry. Edie reconnects with Steven at a Knicks game, where he remembers that Edie used lavender water on their laundry, that "Joe Perry still can't stop talking about."

The music biz movie is full of reverent Aerosmith moments...from Tyler's performance with Christina Milian, filmed last year at the band's Tweeter Center show on June 24, to a Joe Perry cameo backstage, and even an amazing old-school Aerosmith shirt that Uma's Edie wears to bed.

John Travolta gets in on the act too...his character, Chili Palmer, points out to Steven that his inspiration for "Sweet Emotion" wasn't the rock n' roll; it came from his love for his daughters Mia and Liv..and his newfound love as a father. Steven, looking serious and ever-so-cool with his cigar, says "You're right. I never thought about it like that."

So Aerosmith fans, go see the flick! You'll find you want to cheer for the Aerosmith appearances just like when you're at a show.

Billboard: Perry Rocks The Basement On New Solo Set

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry didn't have far to travel when it came time to polish the material on his upcoming self-titled solo set. Instead of flying across the country or even driving to the other side of his Boston home base, he simply walked down the stairs and flipped on the lights in his basement home studio, the Boneyard.

"Part of my process for writing is, I like to go down and cover other songs just for the hell of it, just to see how they come out," Perry tells Billboard.com of the set, which was a largely solitary endeavor. "That's one of the benefits of having a studio at the house. There's nothing like being able to just go downstairs and get the guitar sounds I have in my head to come out of speakers and get them on tape."

The new album, due May 3 via Columbia, blends relatively recent compositions such as "Shakin' My Cage," "Lonely" and "Push Comes To Shove" with new versions of old, never-completed ideas. Perry says the closing instrumental, "Mercy," has been around in some form since sessions for Aerosmith's 1993 album "Get a Grip," while "Ten Years" was written "about 10 years ago for my 10th wedding anniversary, as a present for my wife. I never really planned on anybody hearing it other than her."

Also featured are covers of Woody Guthrie's "Vigilante Man" and the Doors' "Crystal Ship." Says Perry of the former, "It's a tip of the hat to one of the most important musical figures of the last century, in my book anyway. Hopefully somebody who doesn't know Guthrie will hear this and explore, or grab one of his records."

The artist recorded enough material that he was left with several extra tracks he says will hopefully form "the backbone of another record. I will definitely put out another solo record after this one. I'm not sure when, but I'd like it to be more sooner than later."

With Aerosmith set to reconvene in late summer or early fall to plot its next move, Perry admits a full tour in support of his album is "out of the question." However, he says he "may ask a few friends to sit in with me on a few dates to promote the record. It would be some guys I know that would play the sh*t out of the stuff and be able to knock it off pretty quick."

Steven's Harmonica on Jonny Lang's New Album

Scene Magazine, CO
March 9, 2005

"Jonny Lang's name...became associated with musical greatness even before he got his driver's license...His last album, 2003's 'Long Time Coming,' is an assembly of pop rock songs rife with soul and gospel influence. It's also a collection of mostly Lang originals, marking the first time in the young guitarist's career that he wrote and co-produced the bulk of a record's material...Co-producer Marti Frederickson has worked with a range of musicians, from Ozzy Osbourne to Faith Hill, separated by the vast expanse of a musical continent. His contributions add greatly to Lang's change of direction heard on the new album. 'Long Time Coming' includes guest appearances by such well-known names as the omnipresent Eminem, who contributes drum programming to a cover of the Edgar Winter song 'Dying To Live,' and Steven Tyler's rip-roaring harmonica on a Lang original....."

Contactmusic.com, UK

Ozzy Osbourne has applauded his wife Sharon's shrewd delay of her tsunami charity single - because it will serve as a much-needed financial boost when interest in the tragedy wanes. And while Ozzy initially pleaded with his wife to release the song sooner, he's come to understand her decision to hold back its available on record store shelves.....

He says, "I said to Sharon, 'That record needed to go out yesterday.' But what she's doing is quite clever. Because the initial impact of the tsunami, right, everyone went, 'Oh my god what a terrible thing,' because it was a major disaster. But then - people forget! So this will remind them. This record isn't going to be out for another eight f**king weeks."

Aerosmith Goes Quiet

The Boston Globe
March 4, 2005

Silence Is Deafening

Aerosmith has had periods of dormancy, but few as protracted as this one. "Since August, there's barely been any talking," said bass player Tom Hamilton. "I think we're all afraid that if there's talking, it'll result in meetings and faxes, and then we'll all be back in that room." Not that being in a room with Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, and Brad Whitford is bad, he said, but the band needs a breather. Hamilton's staying busy while on hiatus, playing tonight at a benefit for Peace Games at the Westin Copley Place. He'll be joined by bluesman James Montgomery and Aaron Lewis of Staind. (The event's being hosted by Rhona Mitra of "Boston Legal.") Hamilton left little doubt yesterday that he'll resume his day job eventually. Neither Perry's new solo CD, nor Tyler's separation from his wife, Teresa, will affect the band. "Steven's an extremely stoic and resilient person, and obviously he's going through something difficult at the moment," said Hamilton. "But he's got so much fire in his belly to perform, I don't see that getting put out."

Shooting the Staples Center Sequence: "It was a ball. All the problems are production problems. John and I decided to ignore people screaming our names but what are you going to do? It was totally, you know, it was a really fun. What I like about this movie is it does have a slightly reality show quality to it. You know what I mean? There is this sort of tongue-in-cheek surrealness of people playing themselves and celebrities being the character with a celebrity who is being themselves in the real room with the real fans with the real people. It has a great sort of unabashed texture to it. [Those] are the really fun things about the movie."

Working with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler: "Great, totally great. He is a very nice man. He is completely soft spoken, self deprecating, funny, nice."

Travolta, Thurman Twist Again - Tomorrow

Daily Trojan, CA
March 3, 2005

"Steven Tyler sings. The Rock lifts one eyebrow. John Travolta dances with Uma Thurman. It's increasingly difficult to distinguish the real Hollywood from Elmore Leonard's bizarrely comic - and bizarrely life-like - one. 'Be Cool,' the new film directed by F. Gary Gray and based on one of Leonard's novels, could just as easily be titled, 'Hollywood Plays Itself.'...

'This cast is amazing,' Milian said...Joining Travolta this time around are Vince Vaughn, The Rock, Cedric the Entertainer, Harvey Keitel, James Woods and Steven Tyler...

'To see The Rock, dead serious, doing a scene from 'Bring It On' as a monologue - that's as good as it gets,' said Travolta. As good as front-row Lakers' tickets and backstage passes to an Aerosmith concert? During the shoot, the filmmakers had access to whatever they needed. For one scene, they filmed at an actual Lakers' game. (Fans, not realizing it was part of a movie shoot, got confused watching John and Uma enter and sit next to Tyler over and over.)

For some concert footage, director F. Gary Gray shot at a live Aerosmith concert; the band alerted the crowd to the presence of the film crew and then performed their hit 'Cryin' as the third, fifth and seventh song of their set. That gave Gray the chance to do a round of wide shots, medium shots and close-ups.

From 'Get Shorty' to novel to screenplay to sequel, the transitions were as smooth as Chili Palmer himself. And as for the result, well, everyone feels it lives up to its title. 'You don't have to tell this movie to be cool,' said Cedric the Entertainer. 'It is cool.' "

About AF1 chat

From Nicole @ Paid:
Hi guys. I am exhausted, you?

First fo all, Tom picked the questions to answer - he is a cool guy and likes to get in there himself! The reason it was moderated in format, is to prevent like obscene questions from getting in there and live. Also so the chat isn't flooded with questions Tom is a light-hearted guy so he is cool with answering some of the silly questions! As I said in another post, the questions were flying by -- I think if you guys could see the questions screen you wouldn't believe it. So no doubt, there were lots of good Qs that were missed. There are some different options for working this next time --- we can get some questions in advance, and maybe we run a contest for a chat with a small group of 100 or so some time. We wanted to include every active member, to give everyone a chance. But with THOUSANDS of you, there was no way to get every question up there.

It was not our intent to let some people get in there twice, but it was so busy and crazy reading the questions, that we didn't always see that it was the same person.

Lots of improvement to make on the chat experience, but overall I think it was really fun and look forward to doing it again!

Full winners of the autographed stuff (there are 2 more) and transcript will be posted tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for coming over!

Also, Tom's calling in a message so be on the lookout!

and:

Hi guys. Tom picked the questions to answer of course! But it was kind of a whirlwind -- as you can imagine, 100s of questions all coming in at once, and it was hard to read all the questions as they were coming in. No doubt we missed some good questions. So although he picked the questions, the timing was quick and he really wanted to read more than the chat allowed him to...We saved them all though so maybe he'll answer some more this week.

On the Toys front, I was surprised to see lots of repeat questions from those that were already answered keep coming in. I think because some people join the chat later, they don't see the questions already answered and ask the same thing.

We experienced some tech issues on our end and are aware of yours...we have room for improvement!

We'll be posting the transcript tomorrow. Please do not post it on other sites...it is a benefit for AF1 fan club members. Tom was awesome and so much fun to hang out with - he really enjoyed seeing your questions too. He also laughed at lots of the fun stuff that came in referring to him as "Your Royal Highness" or "incredible" which he thought was funny. Whomever had that Buffalo cold pole question, we saw you said that everything is cold in Buffalo, which is funny.

Also, Tom did have a closing thank you statement! I think the chat was turned off right then and it didn't go through. Luckily we saved it, and we'll post it on the CHAT page tomorrow along with the random winners of the autographed stuff.

Thanks for everyone who gave it a shot...we had fun and Tom really enjoyed it!

- Nicole

PS - Whew! Time to go to sleep, crazy snow in Boston and I had to pull off to a hotel for the night!

Chrsitina Milan talks about Steven.....

Thanks to Seaside Dreamer
From an interveiw...

Steven Tyler, I love him. I don’t know if you guys have gotten to meet him yet but he is so cool, so humble, the sweetest guy ever. He’s another person, besides John, that I was so nervous about meeting and he was so cool. He had these great stories to tell and when I found out we were going to be performing live in Boston in front of an Aerosmith crowd, it was 30 thousand people at a real Aerosmith concert, I was really nervous. So, singing the song “Crying”, that’s another situation because that’s one of my favourite songs and I didn’t want to screw it up. When it came time, we didn’t rehearse it too much because if you overdo it, it’s (CAN’T UNDERSTAND) and it’s really wack and I’m used to performing anyway. But, by the time I got out on that stage, my confidence could reach the sky and I think having him up there, he really has got this energy about him that really pushes you and the chemistry was like that (snaps fingers). It was automatic. We shot it three times live and Joe Perry’s the bomb too, playing right next to me. I felt like a rock star and I’m officially an Aerosmith groupie now. It was great.

I wonder what your boyfriend Nick Cannon thinks about your crushes on Steven Tyler and Brad Pitt?

Christina: (laughs) For both of them he’s like ‘Ewww’. Of course he wants me to only have a crush on him. He thinks it’s interesting. He’s obviously afraid of me running away with Brad Pitt and the Steven Tyler thing is interesting. I became a groupie once I met him. He’s got this thing on stage that’s really hot. It’s totally different than when you just look at him on television.

Red Sox Player is Aerosmith Fan

Middletown Press, CT
March 1, 2005

"Numerous staff members will accompany the team to the White House on Wednesday, when the Sox are honored by President Bush for their World Series triumph....'I’d rather meet Steven Tyler than the President of the United States,' said Bronson Arroyo, referring to the Aerosmith lead singer. Arroyo said he’s been to the White House once before as part of Pittsburgh’s rookie development program and enjoyed it, but says he has no political leanings....."
