The band will headline the Hyde Park Calling festival on June 24.
Guitarist Joe Perry said: 'I think all we can do is lay it out there why we are the band we are.
'Its been eight years and I think we need to remind everybody.'
Aerosmith have been among rock music's most prolific bands since first breaking big in the 1970s with hit singles such as Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion.
They suffered a lull in the 1980s, but rebounded with 1987 album Permanent Vacation, which included the single Dude (Looks Like a Lady).

Who was the first rock star to tie a scarf around his microphone stand?
Tricia Singer, Charlotte, NC
That boho-chic look has lately been adopted by all sorts of pop stars, from Carrie Underwood to Lindsay Lohan. But the man most frequently associated with the mic-stand scarf, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, insists he was the first and we couldn’t find any evidence to contradict him.
According to Tyler, it started as an accident. “Very early on,” he tells Blender, “I had a favorite macramé shirt that I wore onstage all the time and an Indian scarf in my hair” - trés dude looks like a lady. “The shirt and scarf got worn out and torn off me eventually,” he says, but rather than throw them out, Tyler “hung them on the mic-stand for good luck. Must be the gypsy in me.” The look stuck, and it's now one of his trademarks.
Interestingly, in addition to looking cool, the scarves doubled as a makeshift medicine cabinet. “Some of them had little pockets sewn in,” Tyler said in the band’s 2003 autobiography, “and I’d weight them with Quaaludes and Tuinals. That way I wouldn’t run out.” Funny - our Aunt Sylvia used to do the same thing.

Aerosmith to play CDPEC on July 21
Stephanie Riley’s e-mail says it all: aerosmithlover#1. The 24-year-old Montague woman has been what she describes as the ultimate Aerosmith fan ever since she can remember.
So word that Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer are coming to P.E.I. leaves Riley Livin’ On the Edge.
The Guardian has confirmed Aerosmith will play the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre July 21.
More than 30,000 fans are expected, making it the largest concert in the Island’s history. Last year’s concert by U.S. rap and dance music artist Black Eyed Peas attracted about 18,000.
Riley travelled to Quebec in 1998 to see the Boston rockers with her best friend, Angela MacDougall, who is also from Montague. In 2001, the duo was flown to Toronto to see Aerosmith as a high school graduation gift. "I have everything they’ve ever produced — posters, books, CDs, 8-tracks, records — you name it, I’ve got it," Riley said from her Montague home Friday. "We’re psyched. It’s hard for me to believe that they are coming this close. It’s just going to be insane."
Legends. Icons. Idols.
Those are the words used to describe the rock legends. They have sold over 100 million albums and are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And they’re now on a world tour. That tour will take the band to cities like Buenos Aires, Dubai, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Moscow and now Charlottetown, P.E.I....

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Aerosmith will take a break from working on a new studio album to tour Europe this summer for the first time since 1999.
The group jetted into London for a few days to make the announcement and play a gig on February 19 at London's Hard Rock Cafe.
"We haven't done a club show in a long time so the novelty factor was there by the imperial gallon," bass player Tom Hamilton said on the group's Web site (http://www.aerosmith.com). "The audience was right in our face splattering us with their energy and all we had to do was hand it back."
The trek proper begins June 6 in Randers, Denmark, and will run through July 12 in Moscow. Beforehand, the group will play in Dubai and Mumbai, India. Also on the itinerary is a June 24 appearance at the London festival Hyde Park Calling.
No release date has been set for the group's first album of original material since 2001's "Just Push Play". Work has been delayed by throat surgery for singer Steven Tyler, and cancer treatment for Hamilton.
Here are Aerosmith's tour dates:
May 31: Dubai (Autodrome)
June 2: Mumbai, India (Bandra Kumla Ground)
June 6: Randers, Denmark (Randers Stadium)
June 8: Solvesborg, Sweden (Rock Festival)
June 10: Frankfurt, Germany (Hessentag Fair)
June 12: Karlsruhe, Germany (DM Arena)
June 14: Munich (Olympiahalle)

200 Bagels?
The guys gather in front of Hotel before rehearsals - Photo: John B.

Hey everybody! Lots going on since we got off the road December 18th. The band are in the midst of a full frontal press attack! They just played London for the first time since 1999. The show capped off a day of press at the Hard Rock Café where the guys met journalists from all over Europe. Originally the band were going to play 3 or 4 songs to start off the press conference but Steven thought what the hell let’s just play a gig. So the guys put together an 11 song set the day before at rehearsals and just blew the roof off the place.

I have seen this band many times and on this night they just went on autopilot and cooked. I think the crowd at the Hard Rock could have been a little more enthusiastic but I understand a lot of them were press people who may not have been hardcore fans of the the guys. I look forward to the summer show in Hyde Park.
I had the best seat in the house - John B. - Photo: Joe Sagara

I do have to say that the highlight of the trip for me was getting to see the master of the big bottom Tom Hamilton back on stage rocking the 4 (or 5) string. Tom has been through a lot in the past year and you could see he was really psyched to be back playing again.
200 Bagel Wightman and John B on crutches - Photo: Joe Sagara

Since space was limited the guys had to dress under the Hard Rock Store across the street. Steven wanted a little more room so he summoned Col. Donny Wightman to secure 2 Winnebago’s for the band. Donny explained to the Hard Rock brass in his thick Boston accent what was needed for the following morning and the Hard Rock production guy nodded and mumbled back in a thick cockney accent. Donny sensing there might have been something lost in translation said, “Could you repeat that?” Yes Ir’ We will ‘av 200 Bagels here in the morning. That’s what I thought said Boston’s finest. He then tried speaking the kings English to clarify things. I couldn’t help but thinking what would have happened if 200 piping hot bagels showed up at the Hard Rock the next morning.
The band’s major reason for being in London was to promote the Hyde Park show in June. The event is called Hyde Park Calling. It’s a 2-day festival with Aerosmith headlining the second day. Steven was in town earlier in the week to attend the Brit Awards. He then went to a party following the awards hosted by the band “Oasis.” Last time in the UK the leader of the band, Noel Gallagher, came to Aerosmith’s Wembley Stadium show and hung out with Joe Perry backstage. Hopefully he will be back again this year. Oasis is a great band and deservingly was given a lifetime achievement award at the Brits.

Ross shoots Joe Perry - Photo: John B.

On Tuesday Joe had a full day of press, which included a lot of one on one interviews with various magazines across Europe. The day was capped off by a photo shoot in nearby Parsons Green by none other than legendary photographer/website writer Ross “The Boss” Halfin. Usually Ross is bossy and for some reason the bands like his harsh approach because he get’s things done quick, but Joe is a different animal and works at his own pace. The shoot was however quick and the pictures look awesome. I am sure Ross will put some up without asking for permission soon.
Nobu Calling! - Photo: John B.

Later that evening Ross, Peter Makowski (from Classic Rock magazine), Joe, Jimmy Page and myself went to Nobu. The food was great and the company better except for maybe Halfin who spent most of the evening chatting up birds. Bryan Adams stopped by on his way out and graciously introduced himself to Joe and Jimmy. I couldn’t help but think how many records have been sold between the 3 of them. Joe and Jimmy have been friends for a while now and spent the evening talking about mainly guitars. After dinner we jumped in cab and headed back to our hotel. Joe invited Peter up to finish the interview while Jimmy called it a night. Ross hung out in my room. What a treat! The guy went through my mini bar looking for chocolate and cashews. This stuff ain’t cheap. Ross wanted to do his diary from my computer. I got to see first hand that half the stuff the guy writes is shite. But I have to say he does make it quite humorous. He isn’t quite the tyrant he is made out to be but he’s really close.
The next day Steven headed off to Milan to hang out with designer Roberto Cavalli. Joey and his lovely wife April decided to stay an extra day and sight see while Brad and his wife Kim and son Aiden are still in London. Tom and Donny headed out the day after the show.
Next up is South America and Mexico. The guys will spend March getting ready for the April tour and then head to Dubai to start the Spring/Summer tour. I am looking forward to the tour, as it will hit a lot of city’s I have never been to.
See You on the Road!

Tom Checks in: Two Days in London…
Aero Force One
February 22, 2007
(Tom wrote this in his hotel room just after the gig
at the Hard Rock in London.)
Just got back to the hotel after a gig at the Hard Rock in London. There were probably all of a hundred and fifty people there. A nice cozy club gig. Our equipment probably took up more space than the audience.
We’ve been in London for the last couple of days doing press to promote our first European tour in eight years. It starts in May and goes through mid July. I’m pretty psyched about it. I’m a history buff and they have a pretty big supply of it over there in the Old World.
You’d be amazed at all the planning and logistics that go into this stuff. I mean technically its a few interviews and a club gig. Sounds simple but it ain’t. It takes a lot of smart people a lot of time to plan it out so it works right. You have to make sure the radio guy from Latvia gets as much time as the newspaperwoman from Germany. The interviews were literally ten minutes each, one after the other for the whole day. It all worked well and everybody seemed reasonably satisfied. I had to keep reminding myself to watch the jet lag thing. You don’t want to say something dumb because you’re wiped out from the time warp.
We all met up here Sunday afternoon after flying all night. Wait a minute….. Sunday morning. See - I’m already f-ing up the facts. After going back to sleep for a little while we went over to the club for a sound check/rehearsal. The stage was tight but the room had a nice sound. The fact that the back wall was only about thirty feet away probably helped. Everybody in the band was getting off on it. It was ballsy but tight and focused. It made us all look forward to the gig, which was the next night. We finished the sound check and then headed out to an Indian restaurant for a good pig-out.
I promised myself I’d get to sleep early but of course it didn’t happen. Too many distractions. No matter how hard I try 2:00 A.M. comes around way too fast. What the hell, sometimes you play better when you’re exhausted.
After all the interviews and press hubbub we went back to the hotel for a break. As usual I ordered something off the room service menu and put on the news channel. In England it’s Sky News and the story of the day was about some pop singer shaving her hair off along with the usual stories about warfare and traffic congestion.
We went over to the venue around 9:00 and went straight onstage. What a blast. It was a real treat having the band all close together while we played. Close enough to look at each other and revel in yet another milestone. We haven’t done a club show in a long time so the novelty factor was there by the imperial gallon. The audience was right in our face splattering us with their energy and all we had to do was hand it back. Not to be too corny but I really did flash back to when we used play the Barn up in New Hampshire in the early days. It was a nice moment, not to be forgotten.
So anyway it was cool to be in London where so many of our favorite bands came from. We soaked in the history.
Speaking of legends. We got to see the vault under the Hard Rock where they keep some of their most priceless memorabilia. They had a guitar that belonged to Jimi Hendrix along with one from Jeff Beck and another from Duane Allman. They had a jacket that belonged to John Lennon and a necklace that belonged to Elvis Presley. My favorite item was one of those little bubble things that you shake and it makes a little snowstorm. It belonged to Kurt and Courtney. The little thing was probably worth a Ferrari for cryin’ out loud.
Tomorrow it’s back to Boston. Got to get there before the jet lag sets in for real.

Mika, Akon, and the Kaiser Chiefs are all very well, but as Van Halen singer/ mountaineering enthusiast David Lee Roth once put it, nothing gets a yak over a crevasse quicker than Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle". It's an event, too, when an act that has sold in excess of 150 million albums opts to play their first UK gig in eight years in a glorified diner. "When did Aerosmith last appear in a venue this size?" says the Hard Rock's pleased big cheese introducing them. "Never."
The "secret" gig is to cement the announcement that Aerosmith will headline a major rock event in London's Hyde Park this June, but tonight they are just feet away. There is something magically cartoonish about their charisma; nail-varnished, heavily bejewelled singer Steven Tyler like a lascivious Peter Pan who holds the key to Seventies' hard rock's seminal Neverland.
"Love in an Elevator" is magnificently uplifting, its swaggering riffs transporting us to classic rock's penthouse suite. Further in, the choruses of "Don't Want to Miss a Thing" are executed with an authority and poise power ballads in other hands routinely lack.
Watching Joe Perry, it is clear that finger strength and skilled vibratoare the qualities that separate the men from the boys where rock-guitar prowess is concerned. Your Snow Patrols and Coldplays don't know how to execute a liquid bend and apply a searing, sustained caress. But Perry? Man, he wrote the book.
Though (mostly) rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford has the greying look of your typical fifty-something rocker, Tyler and Perry are still far better preserved than a duo whose excesses earned them the epithet "the Toxic Twins" have any right to. The tanned Perry looks as sculpted as the presidents on Mount Rushmore, while Tyler twists his tiny frame into shapes that suggest any joint replacements are a long way off. "When I first saw this band I said, if you don't let me join, I'm going to have to break in," he confides ahead of a thrillingly visceral "Rattlesnake Shake". "This is the song that made me feel that way."
Aerosmith could always groove as well as rock, so it is a cinch for them to drop into the late James Brown's "Mother Popcorn". Funky as hell, it is the perfect conduit to "Walk this Way", the rock/rap crossover that became a huge hit after Aerosmith re-recorded it with Run DMC. As Tyler applies his formidable larynx to the song's chorus, the sense of privilege is immense. Rock bands of Aerosmith's pedigree are an increasingly endangered species. Seeing them up close was sublime.

NME.com, UK
February 20, 2007

The rock legends roll out the hits
Rock legends Aerosmith played a surprised show at the Hard Rock Café in London last night (February 19) to celebrate the announcement of their forthcoming European tour.
Ripping through hits from their debut album right up to the present day, a few hundred watched the bare-chested rockers stripped down to the basics.
"When I heard them playing this song, I knew I had to join the band," frontman Steven Tyler announced before launching into a cover of Fleetwood Mac's 'Rattlesnake Shake'. "If they weren't going to let me in I was breaking in," he continued.
The set was:
'Walkin' The Dog'
'Love In An Elevator'
'Living On The Edge'
'What It Takes'
'Draw The Line'
'Rattlesnake Shake'
'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing'
'Baby Please Don't Go'
'Cryin''
'Walk This Way'
'Train Kept A Rollin''
The tour visits London for the Hyde Park Calling festival on June 24. Tickets go on sale on Friday (February 23) at 9am.

The veteran rock band played their first show in Britain for eight years at the Hard Rock Cafe. See the pictures here...
The venue was the only thing that was small about Aerosmith's first show on British soil for almost eight years.
They were last seen on stage at the old Wembley in 1999 and this intimate promotional taster saw the ageing rockers, soon to top the bill at this summer's Hyde Park Calling event, working the room as if it was one more stadium to be conquered.
Leading the way was Steven Tyler, at 58 still disturbingly pretty if you squinted, hair full of bits and bobs like a girl on a gap year. Even after throat surgery last year, he remained in full possession of that scorched primal howl, one of the key elements of rock 'n' roll.
His microphone stand was a seamless extension of his body, draped in scarves and studded with tiny mirrors, lowered deep into the audience for vocal assistance on 1975's Sweet Emotion and ultimate power ballad I Don't want to Miss a Thing.
He pretended to play it like a guitar on the vintage blues of Baby Please Don't Go, and held it aloft like a trophy at the frantic climax of The Train Kept A Rollin'.
Often, though, he was reduced to percussion-duties when song after song became a showcase for the abilities of guitarist Joe Perry.
The other Toxic Twin made much of a filthy slide riff on Draw the Line, before effortlessly switching to funk on a timely spontaneous cover of James Brown's Mother Popcorn and, of course, Walk This Way.
If some of the other band members looked like your grandad in a wig, no one will notice at the big shows. It's been such a long time, London will be more than ready to walk their way again.

Woke up this morning trying to work out if I enjoyed last night. John Bionelli agreed with my sentiments on the way the event was run. It was productive for work, but enjoyable - no.
Shooting Joe Perry today, which will be enjoyable....
February 19
A day in hell - well, it felt like hell, stuck in the Hard Rock Cafe all day was like being in rock prison.
Aerosmith were doing press with three different PR companies, all pretending to like each other and to like me, and let's face it, I'd like to think they like me - but I KNOW they don't... Bernard Docherty, Rolling Stones PR, tried to give me a tune up over Steven and Joe looking at the stage. He told me off in a theatrical manner, blaming me for delaying the press conference. Told him to go and practise his thespian art on the very lovely Trudy Green (the band's manager). In fact the whole day was like a mini coup in an African country with everyone vying for power....
It started at 11.30am. The ORDEAL began with the band doing press in the Hard Rock Vault....
The rest of the day the band were doing press in the basement with Estonia, Dubai, Latvia and Kazakhstan....
The band went on at 9.15 played until 10.30. They did Walking The Dog, Sweet Emotion, Crying, Walk This way, Train Kept A Rollin', Rattle Snake Shake, What It Takes....
February 18
A lazy Sunday until late afternoon then in Aerosmith Land.
All the band are here, so meet up and off to soundcheck at the Hard Rock where the Aerosmiths are sound checking for a show tomorrow to launch the European tour. They play Walking The Dog, Mother Popcorn, Baby Please Don't Go, Remember Walking In The Sand and all the ballads I hate and you love - I Don't Wanna Miss A thing etc...
They are good and you know Steven can sing - really sing....

Aerosmith Announce 2007 European Tour
Aero Force One
February 19, 2007

Aerosmith band members (L-R) Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Joey Kramer attend a photocall to promote 'Hyde Park Calling' at The Hard Rock Cafe on February 19, 2007, in London, England. The event, presented by Hard Rock, is set to take place on June 23 and 24 this year and the band will headline on the second of the two days at their first UK concert date in 8 years.

First European dates in 8 Years
"Sunday's Aerosmith gig at the Beacon stands as the top concert to play a major hall in N.Y.C. this year. Seriously...Aerosmith built a heart-pounding concert: real, in-the-moment rock 'n' roll where nothing felt forced, panties were tossed and the wall between band and fans was shattered. This show sparkled from unwavering confidence."
–- New York Post review dated 5th December 2006. Taken from Aerosmith’s “Route Of All Evil” North American tour.
“Aerosmith prove why many deem them “America’s Greatest Rock Band”…whether it was born in the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s, Aerosmith seamlessly create a scrapbook of everything good rock was and, God willing, will always be.”
–- Kerrang magazine live review Sept 2006
Aerosmith – America’s Greatest Rock ‘N’ Roll Band – are set to return to Europe for the first time in 8 long years for a mammoth European tour. Fresh from a hugely successful US tour, Aerosmith are set to put on one of the greatest rock shows and spawn what will be the ultimate must see event of 2007.
For more than 30 years, Aerosmith has defined the essence of Rock & Roll. Even a brief overview of the group's remarkable career is truly mind-boggling: over 100 million albums sold, induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, countless awards (including four Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, six Billboard Awards, and 12 MTV Awards), and a fanatically loyal fan-base numbering in the millions worldwide. The members of Aerosmith -- Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer -- remain creatively vital and continue to set the platinum standard for artistic and commercial success in the music business. Over the past thirty years, Aerosmith has earned 95 gold, platinum and multi-platinum certifications from the RIAA for the group's albums, singles, and videos (the biggest ever tally for a USA act).
During this time they have inspired generations of artists and created some of the most important and best loved rock songs of all time. From early works such as “Dream On”, “Sweet Emotion”, “Toys In the Attic” and “Back In The Saddle”, through to the genre defining “Walk This Way” (Aerosmith featuring Run DMC), through to massive global hits such as “Janie’s Got A Gun”, “Cryin’”, “Dude Looks Like A lady”, “Love In An Elevator” and “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”.
Joe Perry - “It’s been way too long since we’ve played the UK and Europe. Some of the most unforgettable gigs in my life have been played to incredible European fans. You know, 8 years is a long time in the world of rock and roll. In some ways, these gigs will feel like the first time. So, let’s get together and see if it was as good for you as it was for us.”
The end of 2006 saw Aerosmith completing a massive North American tour of predominantly outdoor amphitheatres supported by Motley Crue. The sold out tour was lavished with praise by critics and audiences alike.
For the tour Aerosmith thrust themselves into the middle of the audience, turning the seats along the 70-foot-long ramp into one big front row experience that enabled fans to get up close and personal with rock’s quintessential live act.
Steven Tyler - "I always look forward to touring across the pond because life's a pisser when European."
The European tour will be pre-empted by select dates in Dubai and India. The full May/June/July 2007 dates are as follows:

Aerosmith tour fresh off the back of the release of “The Very Best Of...” album in late 2006. Featuring two brand new songs – “Sedona Sunrise” and “Devil’s Got A New Disguise” - the definitive collection brings together all the anthemic early Aerosmith chart-toppers recorded for Columbia Records, like “Dream On”, “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way”, to the bands Geffen years, such as huge singles “Dude (Looks Like A Lady)”, “Love In An Elevator”, “Livin’ On the Edge”, “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”, “Cryin’” and “Janies’s Got A Gun”. With no radio single or video, the record has already sold in excess of 250,000 copies in the UK – evidence of Aerosmith’s lasting appeal as America Greatest Rock ‘N’ Roll Band.
Aero Force One (AF1), the band's official fan club, will offer exclusive VIP ticketing packages to create the ultimate concert experience. Visit www.aeroforceone.com for details.

February 17
I was going to go through photos with Steven, except Steven wanted to get out. I thought he meant shopping, he actually meant out of London - he wanted to see the South. So we drove to Barnes so he could see Olympic Studios, then on to the tree where Marc Bolan died - now a shrine.
We then headed to my homeland of Cheam. Stopped at the Red Lion Pub in Cheam village, where a girl screamed when she saw him. In all the time I've known him (since 1977) he's never been to my home. Steven wanted to hang out and do nothing, so we watched The Old Grey Whistle Test and did nothing...
Took some photos of ST spinning my Roger Daltry mike and juggling my yin and yang balls. Finished off the evening having dinner at the San Lorenzo in Wimbledon. Drove him back through Battersea and Chelsea. A relaxing day.
February 16
Spent today in the studio doing a two hour shoot with Steven Tyler. He turned up at 11.30am and started to enjoy himself so we kept going until 5pm, which gave Barbara Charone (Steven and Madonna's PR) palpitations... She was not pleased with me as she had him doing interviews (starting at 2.30) for Mojo, The Independent and various other daily papers. He was having a good time - if the pictures come out I'll be very happy.
ST was playing Nerd and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers on cd. I turned it off and stuck my ipod on random. The first song was Combination (from Rocks) which he sang along to, then Discount Dogs, the Joe Perry Project track. I suppose this could be a sign or an omen. The 'smiths will be rocking on Monday night in London...

Aerosmith's 'Back in the Saddle' Leads NASCAR's Daytona
Blabbermouth.net, NY
February 15, 2007
America's biggest, loudest and hardest-hitting band of all time — Aerosmith — is collaborating with the worldwide leader in sports, ESPN, and its coverage of America's biggest, loudest and fastest-growing sport, NASCAR.
Millions of viewers will get to experience the high-octane thrills beginning this Saturday, February 17 (12 PM EST), when a special live version of their immortal hit "Back In The Saddle" will air for the first time on ESPN2 before the NASCAR Busch race in Daytona, Florida.
This live version of "Back In The Saddle" with new racing-themed lyrics will be an integral part of the network's NASCAR telecasts in 2007. The spot was filmed in November at the band's concert at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where the stage was transformed into a virtual pit stop with stock cars and racing equipment.
Aerosmith are all NASCAR enthusiasts, and their relationship with the sport was highlighted in 1999 when driver Kenny Wallace drove the Aerosmith-sponsored #55 Chevrolet.
ESPN and ABC will have live coverage of the final 17 races of the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, including the entire 10-race "Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup" on ABC. In addition, ESPN2 will be the home of the NASCAR Busch Series for the entire season, starting with the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway on February 17.

Spent late afternoon yesterday shopping with Steven Tyler. I love shopping, if I was Elton John I'd have a great time - Steven gives Elton a run for his money. After emptying Yves Saint Laurent we head off to Selfridges. Everybody recognizes him, cab drivers, shop assistants, even a group of girls from Uzbekistan want a photo with him, and he obliges them all.
We end up in Nobu, which is sold out and packed. Steven walks in, 'Hello, I'm Steven, could we get a table?' We do, straight away. Steven is getting asked for autographs, hugs, as if he is a holy figure, one thing I've never seen there. Nobu is always full of A-list celebs and usually no one bothers you.
One thing I have seen in Nobu before is $50 Don Burnsteine, who is at the next table entertaining Deep Purple. 'Hey Steven, I called you,' he shouts. 'Thanks for calling me!' I say. 'I would if you were bringing Jimmy Page. Hey Steven, is Ross putting his hand in his pocket?'
Now one thing that will piss me off is being called cheap. I am not, and coming from $50 Don, who walks around using his company $10,000,000,000 corporate credit card to look good to rock stars, is a bit rich. Don joins us at the end of the night and directs the bill to me with 'Is this on you?' For the record Steven paid. Oh yes, $50 Don's very funny. Let's see him spend his own money...
We walk around the corner to the Hard Rock Vault, which $50 wants to show Steven. It has some nice stuff. Jimi Hendrix's Flying V, Jeff Beck's Telecaster, Bob Dylan's hat and John Lennon's shirt from his show at Madison Square Garden. I get a shot of Steven wearing it. He gets very emotional (John Lennon is ST's hero).I take a few snaps with my Leica.
$50 Don then shows us his two favourite items, a guitar signed by Jon Bon Jovi and another guitar signed by ALL of Skid Row. $50 is beaming. 'Hey, I need those photos!' I'll be happy to sell them to Don - as $50 knows business is business...

I need to acknowledge some of the hardest of hard core Aerosmith fans who went way above the call. A few months ago when I was still feeling kind of wiped out they made me a really cool get well gift. It’s a huge scrapbook where every page is a handmade tribute to the band. Specifically each page is a get well wish done for me to the nth degree. The pages are full of photos and hand made graphics that must have taken each person hours upon hours to finish. I think that’s the most moving part, thinking of how much time and effort was put into making it. I really appreciate it and it was a nice thing to receive just as the long gray winter was beginning.
There were so many people involved in this I can’t name them all for fear of leaving someone out. Winona Clements was the name on the return address so I am going to assume she had a lot to do with organizing the whole thing. But I want everyone who participated to know that I was blown away when I opened the package and looked at it. Every page is a really nice piece of artwork and maybe someday there will be a way to display it so others can see it.
The band is getting ready to go back on the road to some places we haven’t been to in a really long time. In April we’re heading to South America. We'll be heading to some other places that will be announced soon so hang tight. It’s been too long and we’re looking forward to making up for lost time. We remember well how intense the fans were the last time we were down there. It was almost scary but it’s a big part of why we’ve been wanting to come back.
We’re doing our first tour of Europe in about a decade. Don’t ask me how all this time went by so fast. All I know is how ready we are to come and make up for it. We’re going to have to have a major band meeting to make sure we remember to include all the stuff we’ve been doing all these years. We’ll have to brainstorm and make sure we don’t forget anything.
It feels really good to be up and running and looking forward to going on the road. It’s still very weird to think about missing a whole last tour. It was a strange experience. Many times I felt like I needed to be out there with the unit pulling my weight but now I can savor what we’re about to do. We’ve got a busy year coming up. After the European tour (and stay tuned to AF1 for more shows being announced) we take a short break and then go back into the studio. We haven’t done a new album in a while and we really feel enthusiastic about showing everybody what’s on our musical mind.
Thanks again to all the people who sent me the awesome scrapbook.
We’ll see you out there!

Slash Looks Back On All Star Tsunami AID
With The Grammys Awards once again upon us one can't help but recollect on all the Amazing Grammy Awards performances through the years. One of the most amazing of all the performances was in 2005 when Velvet Revolver was joined on stage by a star studded list of musicians for a rendition of The Beatles song 'Across the Universe.' Coming together to benefit UNICEF's Tsunami Relief Efforts was none other than Bono, Billy Joe of Green Day, Stevie Wonder, Slash, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Steven Tyler, Tim McGraw and Brian Wilson all performing with Velvet Revolver as the backing band.
We caught up with Slash during his induction into Hollywood's Rockwalk to discuss what that Grammy performance meant to his distinguished career.
"Yeah, well that's another thing sort of like getting your hands in the cement here. Going up there and working with Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder and Steven Tyler and Brian Wilson. That was major, and we all got together in a dressing room and went through the song and all got up there and basically just winged it. That's something you can look back and go, 'I did that.' You build up a bit of a relationship with people that you respect in the business. It's sort of working up the ladder as a musician sort of a status place where you can actually rub elbows with people that you admire and that you respect and that you grew up listening to. Things like that are priceless."
Slash and Velvet Revolver are finished recording their second album 'Libertad.' The band is eyeing a spring release and the group recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Brendan O'Brien, who stepped in for the band's original choice, Rick Rubin.

You build up a bit of a relationship with people that you respect in the business.

Dream on: Bayfest adds Aerosmith
Port Huron Times-Herald, MI

Rock group joins country's Keith in Sarnia showcase
To anyone who thought Rogers Sarnia Bayfest couldn't possibly top some of the all-star lineups it's had in years past, Steven Tyler has two words for you: Dream on.
Bayfest organizers announced Thursday that rock band Aerosmith, complete with frontman Tyler, will be headlining the July 19 concert. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 24.
The veteran rock band is one of the biggest scheduled to play in Sarnia's Centennial Park. Aerosmith, which spent much of last year touring with Mötley Crüe, came in at No. 10 on Billboard magazine's list of the top-grossing tours of 2006.
Bayfest co-founder Michele Stokley said the band long has been at the top of her wish list of performers.
"It's huge," she said. "They're definitely one of the world's largest bands, and we're lucky to have them coming to Sarnia."
The concert is the only North American date Aerosmith has announced so far this year. The band will be touring Europe for most of June, so the Sarnia date isn't filling in a hole on its touring schedule, Stokley said.
"We're definitely a destination," she said. "We're a big player now."
Aerosmith was formed in Boston in 1970. It went on to become one of the biggest hard-rock acts of the '70s with such hits as Dream On and Sweet Emotion, then staged a comeback in the late '80s.
The Record Industry Association of America has awarded the band 62 platinum record certifications for its albums since 1976, each representing 1 million copies sold.
"They just write quality rock, no gimmicks," said Andy Boudreau.
Boudreau, 31, of Port Huron plays guitar in the band Toxic Candy and counts Aerosmith among his top influences.
He has seen ZZ Top and Kid Rock at Bayfest.
"This tops both of them," he said.
Tickets are on sale for country star Toby Keith's Bayfest show July 20.
Stokley said if she is able to finalize arrangements with another act by Feb. 24, tickets for that show and weekend passes will go on sale that day.
Those who have bought tickets for Keith will be able to upgrade to weekend passes.

Aerosmith To Headline Sweden Rock Festival
Blabbermouth.net, NY
February 8, 2007
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports in its Feb. 8, 2007, edition that Aerosmith will be one of the headliners at this year's Sweden Rock Festival, set to take place June 6-9 in Sölvesborg, Sweden. The last time Aerosmith played in Sweden was in 1999.
Sweden Rock Festival representative Ingolf Persson refused to comment on the report, but admitted that "a band like Aerosmith is every festival's dream — there's no denying that."
According to Aftonbladet, Sweden Rock Festival organizers will officially announce Aerosmith's participation in the event as a headline act in late February.
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry recently revealed that the band is planning to mount a massive world tour this year. In an interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, Perry said, "What we're looking at is coming back and playing some places we haven't played a long time. And places we've never played. It's been eight years since we've been in Europe, and I don't how long it's been since we've been in Australia, and these are all things I want to do and I know all the other guys in the band feel the same way, too — we want to get back and play back out in the world."
Perry added, "We've played America enough for different reasons and we've stayed here, but it's time for playing in other parts of the world. We're an international band and we've played out there, and it's time to get back and go to a lot of places we haven't played in awhile."
Aerosmith and Velvet Revolver are expected to play dates in South America in April.
Aerosmith is working on a new studio album that they hope to release by the middle of this year.

Aerosmith Frontman Lobbies For Creation Of Department Of Peace
Blabbermouth.net, NY
February 8, 2007
Andrew Ramonas of The GW Hatchet Online reports that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler joined actor Joaquin Phoenix, U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and other members of Congress at Lisner Auditorium in Washington D.C. Monday night (Feb. 5) to lobby for the creation of a Department of Peace in front of an eclectic crowd of 200 people.
The star-studded event was the culmination of three days of lobbying by the Peace Alliance for "808," a bill sponsored by Kucinich that calls for the creation of a Department of Peace. The bill, which was introduced for the fourth time in the U.S. House of Representatives Monday night, would create a department that would advise the president on peaceful solutions to domestic and international violence.
Phoenix, who attended the annual "Department of Peace Conference" last year, said that he was "incredibly motivated and inspired" by the movement.
"I have to say 'fuck yeah,'" said Phoenix, who won a Golden Globe award for the movie "Walk the Line" in which he portrayed the late singer and songwriter Johnny Cash.
"I'm just really excited about today and what has been going on the last couple of days," Phoenix said during the event.
He then introduced Tyler, lead singer of the rock band Aerosmith. Tyler explained how Peace Alliance Founder and Chair Marianne Williamson convinced him to perform at the event.
"I get a call from Marianne and she tells me what she is doing," said Tyler, who was vacationing in Maui, Hawaii, when he received the call. "She said, 'The road with no obstacles probably leads to nowhere.' That was the end of my vacation."
Tyler, who was accompanied by pianist and guitarist Russ Irwin, sang three of his hit songs including "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", "Pink", and "Dream On".

An Audience With... Aerosmith
Uncut Magazine
February, 2007
It's now 35 years ago since they first crashed straight out of Boston loaded with bad-ass Stones swagger, back-alley sleaziness, and an attitude so rank with arrogant self-belief you could smell it across town, whichever way the wind was blowing. Their mission: to kick the world repeatedly in the balls, while simultaneously dragging rock'n'roll back to the depraved swamp where it rightly belonged.
Band leaders Steven Tyler and Joe Perry shared an affection for chemical excess that earned them the sobriquet, The Toxic Twins. The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, no-babe-in-arms when it came to illegal substances, described them as "by far the druggiest bunch of guys I've met in my life".
Band meltdown and long spells in rehab inevitably followed. Then, in the mid-80's, they fashioned one of the most unlikely comebacks in rock history, clawing back sales and credibility by teaming up with Run-DMC for a version of "Walk this Way".
Now celebrating a full 20 years clean and straight, Tyler and Perry declare themselves "disgustingly healthy and ready to roll" as they prepare to field questions from Uncut readers. The Toxic Twins may be less toxic these days, but their ability to talk up a tornado thankfully remains undiminished.
Does Aerosmith mean as much to you now as it did 30 years ago? -Luke Pritchard, The Kooks
Tyler: It's different and yet, it's not so very different. We started out wanting to be like Janis Joplin, drinking Jack Daniels onstage and singing your ass off. Then you become successful and it's a fucking miracle, but your ego freaks out and everything becomes secondary to the band for the simple reason that you wouldn't have anything if it wasn't for the band. Now we have families and, of course, the families come first. But, if a family member passes away and we have a show to do, then the show must go on and we deal with the rest later.
What was it like recording with George Martin on the Sgt. Pepper movie soundtrack? Did the great man understand where Aerosmith were coming from at the time? -Shane Jorge, by email
Perry: First of all, it was an honour to work with a guy that had produced all those great Beatles albums. There was no introductory meeting. When he walked into the studio to work with us on "Come Together", that's the first time we met him. We felt kinda overwhelmed, and I guess we were hoping he'd come in and sprinkle some of that George Martin magic dust around the room. But all he did was listen to what we'd already laid down and said, "Sounds good what you're doing, boys! Keep it up!" Looking back, it might've been good to have had a little more input from him. Then again, maybe he appreciated that our version of the song was close enough to the original to be a homage, but it also had the Aerosmith thing going for it. Basically, we played it like he wanted to hear it.
You were big fans of the New York Dolls in your early days. In a just world, would the Dolls have been as mega-successful as Aerosmith became? -Jody Egan, Colchester
Perry: I don't think it has anything to do with a just world. It has to do with what it takes to keep a band together in the face of all the adversity. If anything, the Dolls had more advantages than Aerosmith in that they were darlings of the New York press and all that. Most bands struggled to get one tenth of the recognition they got, and they just pissed it all away. They were the first band that I loved that I watched self-destruct. What I learnt from that is that it's not enough to get your foot in the door. You need to keep your foot there, get the rest of you in there and keep it all there.
Should we ever become as filthy-rich as Aerosmith, what's the best investment? A plane, a house, or a club? -Lovefoxxx, CSS
Tyler: The most ridiculous purchase I ever made was my own plane. Cost me nearly a million dollars. The guy that flew me around also sold my coke. Then there was this one time when we flew into a thunderstorm and this plane looked for awhile like it wasn't going to make it. I sold it shortly after for a good profit. Forget clubs, man. Planes and property, you'll always make a profit.
What's the best Aerosmith album and the worst? -Sandy Cross, by email
Tyler: The best would have to be Toys in the Attic (1975) or Rocks (1976). Then again Pump (1989) is pretty amazing. There's a few Aerosmith albums I choose not to remember anymore. But the worst would have to be one of those many Greatest Hits that the record company put out in the 90's without our permission when we should have had our eyes on the ball but were, ahem, otherwise occupied.
Perry: For me, the worst ever was Done with Mirrors (1985). At that time, we were trying to make an album that was a bit like the old Aerosmith and a bit like where we wanted to be heading. Those songs weren't completely lacking in inspiration, but little of it added up. That has to be our weakest record. Our strongest has to be Get a Grip (1993). It feels like a point of culmination that record, where we realised our potential and brought it right up front. I'm not surprised that songs like "Eat the Rich" and "Livin' on the Edge" have survived the test of time.
Question for Joe, Keith Richards talks about coming up with the riff for "Satisfaction" in his sleep. Have any of your great riffs come to you in the same way? -Paul Solomon, Dundee
Perry: The riffs come to me in all ways. They've come to me in my sleep and when I've been half asleep. When I've been straight or on the knot. The best ones come to me when I'm not even trying. I can't believe some of the things that've come out the ends of my fingers. I just hear something in the air and let it do it's thing. It's like I'm a conduit for a force that I can't pretend to understand. Like I'll be sitting at a soundcheck, strumming a guitar, thinking how good it would be to come up with something that had that great R'n'B sound like a tune by The Meters. There comes the riff to "Walk this Way", fully formed. What can I say? It's a completely magical thing.
Where does good old-fashioned rock'n'roll debauchery end and basic bad behavior begin? -Nancy Simon, Stevenage
Perry: The line is crossed when it ends up showing itself onstage. You have a contract with your fans to play a great show when they come to see you live. When fucking up gets in the way of that, it's wrong. In the late 70's, there were times when we'd actually pass out on stage. That's got nothing to do with rock'n'roll rebellion. That's to do with selling the fans short. We know better now.
Have you ever been embarassed or dissappointed at meeting your idols? -Kris Fletch, Cambridge
Tyler: I don't know about dissappointed or embarassed, but my first meeting with Paul McCartney was certainly memorable. I was in a backstage urinal at the Hammersmith Odeon. McCartney walked in, started doing what people do in urinals. For the record, I did not check his size out. But I'm taking this piss that seems to be taking forever, and Paul says, "Hey! Steven Tyler. I fucking love your music." And he gives me the famous thumbs up with his one free hand. Well, that snapped my stream, right there. It turned out to be quite a night, that one. I recall fat ones being smoked and a lot of wrestling around on the floor.
It used to be sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll all the way for Aerosmith. What's your holy trinity these days? -Karl Richards, by email
Perry: Music is still in there. Family has taken the place of drugs. I'm still big on sex. The only difference nowadays is that I have sex with the same person every night as opposed to a different woman every night. The amazing thing to me is that the sex is so much better the way I'm having it now.
Tyler: The band motto used to be, "if anything's worth doing, it's worth overdoing". For me, we still operate in that way. Only, we no longer have the distraction of drugs. If you're strung out on hard drugs, it's fine if you're stuck in the desert with a yeti, looking at the sunset and getting your fix of epiphanies. But, if you have any remote interest in being creative, dope's gonna steal that from you. It's gonna steal all the gifts that God gave you. These days, Aerosmith wakes up sober, and that means the band can get so much more done.
There's a famous story about Aerosmith playing a gig in the 70's when you came on stage having decided to reverse your set list. You played your encore song first and , then, assuming you'd done the entire show, walked off stage. Any truth to it? -Nicky Wire, Manic Street Preachers
Perry: It's a great story and it never goes away. Unfortunately it's not true. We've done some dumb things onstage but nothing as dumb as that. Having said that, there was one occasion where we played the same song twice because we'd forgotten we'd already played it. That might seem funny to some people, but we're not proud of it. It was that kind of sh*t that stopped people coming to our shows.
Steven, you've got an amazing songwriting partner in Joe Perry. But are there any other guitarists that you would chop your arm off to work with? -Coral Barkwsorth, by email
Tyler: Two words. Jimmy Page. We jammed together in 1995, but I'd love to do something more substantial with him. I dream about stuff like that. You know what though? I doubt that working with any other guitarist could top working with Joe Perry. I'm in awe when I'm on stage with him and he's giving it all this, "I'm an Italian stallion and check this out!" After all these years, he's still driven like a fucking snowstorm.
Based on your extensive research, what's the best drug known to man? -Tony the Pony, by email
Tyler: There's two. Take the right music and the right woman and you have yourself the most powerful concoction ever devised by man or beast. Here's the recipe, Tony. Listen to Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" with your best girl by your side, preferably when you're both watching a good sunset and smoking a bone. You'll be kissing her deep by the end of the first verse. You'll be going down on her by the end of the first chorus. If you've never 69'd you will do so by the middle. If you've never had anal sex you will do so by the time that Jimmy Page's guitar gets into its full stride. That's the truth. And there's nothing better in this life.

Celebrities and Legislators Rally for Peace
The Daily Colonial, D.C.
February 6, 2007
National legislators and celebrities spoke to a packed crowd in Lisner Auditorium last night as “Turning Peace into Political Power,” a celebration for the reintroduction of a bill before Congress to create a U.S. Department of Peace. The evening was the conclusion to a three-day conference promoting the establishment of a Peace Department to the federal government.
Sponsored by GW and The Peace Alliance, a national activist organization to promote the Department of Peace movement, the gala included a performance by musician Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and appearances by actors Joaquin Phoenix and Brittany Snow.
During Tyler’s performance of three Aerosmith songs, he said his reasoning for coming to the event was that we all must “love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and live without regrets.” He said he cut short a vacation in Hawaii to support the cause for a Department of Peace.
Motivational author and speaker Marianne Williamson, who is also a radio show host on “Oprah and Friends”, hosted the program and welcomed members of Congress who are the leading proponents and original co-sponsors of the legislation, Bill 808. There are currently 51 co-sponsors of the Bill in the House of Representatives.
“A Cabinet-level Department of Peace will prevent violence before it occurs and diminish violence after it erupts,” said Williamson. “We are ready to mature in our thinking of war and peace. This is not just a humanitarian issue, it’s a security issue. We must do more than fight our enemies; we must create more friends.”
All nine Representatives who spoke were House Democrats, including Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), who led the reintroduction of the Bill, and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim elected to Congress.
“War is not inevitable. Peace is inevitable because we are bringing it forward,” said Kucinich.
Rep. Ellison rallied the crowd with a booming voice and elaborate exclamations. He said that if our country did not participate in war, then there would be more money for education and more money to increase the minimum wage so that people would not have to work multiple jobs.
While the event was open to students and the public, the majority of attendees were citizens from around the country who came to Washington on Saturday, Feb. 3, to learn about peace building, nonviolent conflict resolution, and lobbying skills to promote Bill 808. This week, the activists are visiting their respective Congressional representatives to urge support of the legislation.
The Department of Peace will try to alleviate international and domestic conflict, according to The Peace Alliance website. Within the U.S., the Department’s supporters say it will develop policies and distribute resources to decrease gang violence, child abuse, and other domestic violence issues. On an international scale, the Department would advise the President and Congress on the most advanced techniques and ideas for diplomatic resolutions among nations.

Aerosmith Sings NASCAR
CTNow.com
January 24, 2007
Returning to extensive NASCAR coverage for the first time in six years is the main order of business for ESPN this year, say its executives.
To do that, it recorded a new theme song by a warhorse rock band. "We did two separate shoots with Aerosmith, one in Vegas and one in Connecticut," says Jed Drake, ESPN's senior vice president and executive producer of remote production.
"They have rewritten the song `Back in the Saddle,' and that will become akin to, in some fashion, what we've been able to achieve with Hank on `Monday Night Football.' It is very, very good."
Coverage debuts with the Busch Race at Daytona Feb. 17.
