"....The reason for this A-smith post is because this month I had the good fortune of working closely with Steven Tyler on his new Red Wing motorcycle company. I art directed a photo shoot with him which lasted all day, and I got a very close look at the dude. And, let me tell you... He's the real deal, bad ass, rock 'n roller, legend and icon...."

Out and About

Palm Beach Post, FL
August 29, 2007

"... Is wrinkly rocker Steven Tyler's face a tad smoother? Page Two spies who spotted the 59-year-old Aerosmith singer at the new City Diner on South Dixie in WPB at lunchtime Tuesday thought so. Flanked by two women towering over him, the new-look Tyler wore below-the-knee cargo shorts and green Crocs. And he showed himself to be picky-picky. He wouldn't let those mike-hugging lips of his touch the Caesar salad until he sent it back. It wasn't presented just so. And that's after the party moved from one table to another. Tyler and the band are preparing for a new U.S. tour..."

Hinder won't hold back on entertaining fans, having fun

Boston Globe, MA
August 27, 2007

....On the phone with [Austin] Winkler, speaking from an Indiana tour stop, he is reassuring that the four-year-old group has no plans to drown in its success....

....Winkler says, as musicians, as opposed to rock stars, Hinder is looking for more than a good time. While there are comic and occasionally knuckleheaded sentiments on Extreme Behavior, Winkler and co-writer Hanson are serious about their songwriting....

"You know what? It all comes down to the fans, anyway. We write for the fans, and we write for us...."

One group of fans in particular has Winkler and Hanson working hard on the next album. They opened three shows recently for Aerosmith. "It was definitely like going back to school. It was very, very fun," says Winkler, still sounding a bit awed.

So did the original, now sober, bad boys of rock offer up any pearls of wisdom?

"They just said keep up the good work, so that's what we're going to try to do."

Keith delivers what the crowd wants

Buffalo News, NY
August 25, 2007

....[Toby] Keith and his band — which, it must be said, is simply stellar, though he keeps them so reined in that it hurts — brought their “Big Dog Daddy” tour to Darien Lake on Friday...

...Keith had something brilliant in store, however, and it had nothing to do with him. ABC was filming Friday’s show for an upcoming special commemorating the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, and Keith is one of the artists slated to contribute — Why, I have absolutely no idea.

So Keith announced a special guest, who turned out to be none other than Aerosmith guitarist (and conscience) Joe Perry. Out he came, looking way cooler than Keith ever will, a Gibson 335 with the image of his wife emblazoned on it hanging across his hips. Perry turned on his digital delay, laid the basis with some serious blues licks, and then led the band through the Presleyrelated tune “Mystery Train.” Keith sang it well.

Once the band finished, they played it again, so that the cameras would have a choice of takes. For my money, take 2 was the keeper, as Perry laid down an absolute face-melter of a blues solo....

Some would say they’re ’Crazy’

The Maui News, HI
August 20, 2007

KAHULUI – A gathering of ardent Aerosmith fans began camping out Saturday evening with a goal of getting the best seats they could for the Sept. 26 Aerosmith concert at the War Memorial Stadium.

"It’s the original band," Mark Peterson said to explain his reasons for getting out at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center box office two days before tickets will go on sale. Roberta Means said she has a special attachment to the band, specifically lead singer Steven Tyler, who kissed her then-4-month-old son Michael and signed his baby blanket during a chance encounter at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center.

Spending the night with her husband, Mike Means, who is an Aerosmith fan, Roberta Means said the meeting several years ago was a special memory, and now 8-year-old Michael will be getting a ticket to the concert as well.

"It was just a chance encounter with Steve Tyler in 1999. We were walking through Ka’ahumanu Center carrying my 4-month-old son, and he was walking the other way," Roberta Means said.

"When he came up to me, he just said, ’Hello,’ kissed my baby on the head. Then he signed my baby’s blanket. It was the only thing I had."

"We have never washed that blanket since," Mike Means said.

"We’re getting a ticket for him (Michael) as well. He’s excited. It will be his first rock concert," Roberta Means said.

Peterson said he was at an Aerosmith concert in the ’70s, in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, where the crowd numbered somewhere around 80,000. The Maui venue is a little tighter, with the potential for maybe 20,000.

"This time I’m going to be a little closer," Peterson said.

They were joining Michael and Lilly Villarin, who were actually first in line and equipped with a cot as well as a folding chair for their two-day campout on the MACC sidewalk.

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. today for Maui Arts & Cultural Center members, with the center box office taking orders by telephone as well as at the box office. Reserved seats are $125 and $85, with general admission tickets for bleacher seats at $65. Tickets for the general public go on sale Thursday.

A blues rock band originating in Boston in 1970, Aerosmith has had numerous hits, including "Sweet Emotion," "Dream On" and "Walk This Way." The last, reworked in 1985 to include hip-hop elements, established Aerosmith’s place for a new generation of fans.

Aerosmith Drummer Planning Autobiography

Blabbermouth.net, NY
August 20, 2007

According to The Boston Globe,   Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer is working out the details on writing "Little Boy Burning", his autobiography "of sorts" for publisher Harper One. The book will cover the days of drug-fueled rock 'n' roll and afterward.

Kramer recently opened the Technical store in Boston with John Nichols. Located on Newbury between Exeter and Fairfield streets, the shop's stocked with a wide — and weird — range of streetwear, from hats and hoodies to sneakers and skateboard accessories. (Nichols, a friend of Kramer's son Jesse, opened the first Technical in Norwell a few years ago.) "It's clean, crisp, artist-inspired stuff," said Kramer. Not merely an investor, the drummer, who lives in Marshfield, said he'll occasionally be in the store. But of course, Kramer's keeping his day job. He said Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and the rest of the band begin working on a new record in October, recording it in their South Shore studio. "We've never sounded better," Kramer said. "It's a little spooky, actually."

Aerosmith to perform next month at Maui County Fair

The Honolulu Advertiser, HI
August 17, 2007

Aerosmith, known as the "bad boys of rock" from Boston with roots in the 1970s, will bring their blues and rock chops to the Maui County Fair, at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Maui War Memorial Stadium.

The group features Steven Tyler on lead vocals, keyboards, piano, harmonica, percussion; Joe Perry, on lead and rhythm guitars and background vocals; Brad Whitford, on rhythm and lead guitars; Tom Hamilton, on bass, rhythm guitar and background vocals; and Joey Kramer, on drums, percussion and background vocals. All but Whitford are founding members of Aerosmith, which has been inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

Tickets are $125 and $85 for reserved seats, $65 for general admission.

Tickets go on sale for Maui Arts and Cultural Center members at 10 a.m. Monday at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center box office, online at www.mauiarts.org, and by phone at 808-242-7469. Ticket sales for the general public begin at 10 a.m. Thursday.

On the day of the performance, gates will open at 5 p.m., with food and beverages available for purchase.

The group will be on O'ahu next month for a private performance at the Les Murakami Stadium on the University of Hawai'i-Manoa campus; that corporate gig prohibits an additional Honolulu show.

Seen And Heard

CRN.com
August 17, 2007

Cisco's fascination with rock gods continues. The vendor last week brought in Aerosmith as the entertainment for its annual global sales conference in Las Vegas, treating its cadre of channel account managers and sales engineers to a show from Steven Tyler and the boys. This follows the Networkers at Cisco Live customer conference in Anaheim, Calif., last month, where Kiss served as the main attraction at the event's closing festivities. Who's next? May we respectfully nominate The Who?

(For what it's worth, Tyler is big with tech companies. A couple of years ago, he met Intel's Craig Barrett on stage at CES for a duet of "Walk This Way." We kid you not.)

Living Large

The Phoenix, MA
August 13, 2007

There were some heavy hitters on the red carpet at the opening celebration of Boston’s new, bigger Hard Rock Café last Tuesday. But the biggest cheese went unnoticed by the paparazzi. Hamish Dodds, the CEO/president of Hard Rock International, sat on the patio, admiring his latest venture. The Hard Rock moved from its Clarendon Street spot to Faneuil Hall last month — a move Dodds hopes will make it more than just a rock-oriented burger joint for tourists. “We are already a player in other cities,” he said, referring to the chain’s live-music programming. The new 600-capacity space with concert stage will allow the Hard Rock to bring in larger acts. “We have relationships with bands in other places, and we have the ability to tour people through. It’s part of our strategy. We’re stepping up the pace.”

Two local rockers were happy to give their stamp of approval. Damone’s Noelle LeBlanc complimented the chain for being “super-accommodating” on tour. And former Extreme/Van Halen singer Gary Cherone said, “I’ve been fortunate to do Hard Rocks with Extreme.”

Aerosmith’s Tom Hamilton was also feeling the good vibes. He suggested that the Hard Rock does a great job of “connecting” different elements of rock culture, adding that the restaurant/club’s emphasis on classic rock fits the needs of both people his age and teenagers. Aerosmith are one of several Boston bands (the Pixies and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are two others) whose memorabilia festoons the walls of a special Boston room at the new joint.

Entertainment was provided by Staind’s Aaron Lewis, whose earnest, melancholic solo set contrasted with the festive mood but added gravitas. The Hard Rock was donating all bar proceeds to the Boston anti-violence charity Peace Games, as befits the chain’s motto: “Love All, Serve All.”

Fashion Rocks

FemaleFirst.co.uk, UK
August 10, 2007

The Spice Girls are apparently begging to open this year's Fashion Rocks concert.

London's Royal Albert Hall is the venue for one of the biggest events in the music and fashion worlds and the newly refomed girlband are desperate to be the first on stage according to the Daily Mirror.

But organisers are said to want Britney Spears to open the concert in her first major appearance since her much publicised breakdown.

A source said: "People around the Spice Girls think it's the perfect place for their first gig in years. They're keeping their fingers crossed, but they know there are some big names in the mix."

The concert is on 18th October and the line-up on the night, which will be sponsored by Swarovski, already includes a number of big music names including Kasabian, Alicia Keys and The Gossip.

The US version of the event takes place first on 6th September and will be hosted by Entourage and Shooting Aces star Jeremy Piven and will include big names such as Aerosmith and Maroon 5.

discover their sound and are discovered...

...The All Stars can be heard on the recent two-CD Amnesty International benefit compilation of John Lennon songs, "Instant Karma: The Campaign to Save Darfur," alongside such pop and rock superstars as U2, R.E.M., Green Day and Christina Aguilera. Fittingly, the song they sing is Lennon's classic anthem, "Give Peace a Chance," which found them in the studio collaborating with Aerosmith.

"Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were so very generous to us," says Koroma. "They took us into their recording studio, and they treated us like brothers." Perry also joined the band on a new recording of U2's "Seconds," to be featured on an upcoming compilation of African artists performing songs from U2's catalog....

Even if he weren't instantly recognizable, Joey Kramer would have been hard to miss at the opening of the new Hard Rock Cafe Boston. The Aerosmith drummer showed up in a sleeveless leopard-print shirt, jeans, and a pair of bright red shoes -- or were they sneakers? -- with dangling silver buckles. "You like them?" he asked, relaxing in the club's VIP lounge. "I bought them in Russia." Kramer's style is on sale now at Technical, a Newbury Street store he's just opened with John Nichols. Located between Exeter and Fairfield streets, the shop's stocked with a wide -- and weird -- range of streetwear, from hats and hoodies to sneakers and skateboard accessories. (Nichols, a friend of Kramer's son Jesse, opened the first Technical in Norwell a few years ago.) "It's clean, crisp, artist-inspired stuff," said Kramer. Aerosmith May Perform at Private Concert

KGMB9, HI
August 8, 2007

The UH athletics department is about to cash in on something that has nothing to do with sports. It is all about new cars and rock-and-roll.

The school will host the annual convention for Toyota dealers in the United States, and according to university sources, Toyota is bringing the super group Aerosmith to perform at a private dealers' concert.

The public cannot purchase tickets for the concert, but some lucky students may get a sneak peak.

UH athletics director Herman Frazier told KGMB9 10,000 Toyota dealers from around the country will arrive in late September. Their convention will be held in athletic department facilities on Manoa's lower campus. There will be meetings in the Stan Sheriff Center, a dinner on Cooke Field, and reportedly a concert by Aerosmith at Les Murakami Stadium.

"We will have a contract with them (Toyota), and it's going to be around half a million dollars. And so for us to be able to reap that kind of benefit, we think, is pretty good," Frazier said.

That is about $500,000 in net profit. All the money goes to athletics. It is a windfall for the Rainbow Warriors and perhaps an opportunity for music lovers.

Students who live in dorms overlooking Les Murakami Stadium will certainly be able to hear the concert, and some should be able to look out their windows and see the action live for free.

"It's pretty cool. We normally just have baseball games down here, so it's pretty cool to have a concert," said UH student Dro Novillo. "And it's going to be free for us. We're just going to be looking out our window, so it's pretty cool."

Frazier told KGMB9 the deal with Toyota has been in the works for about a year and a half. He confirms the Toyota event will happen the weekend of September 29 and 30, but said he is not sure what night the concert will be staged.

The university has another money maker coming in October. That's when the LA Lakers will be on campus for their pre-season camp. Frazier expects the camp to generate another $80,000 to $100,000 for the athletic department.

Hard Rock Cafe Grand Opening

Boston Herald, MA
August 8, 2007

'Knights of Prosperity' prince Donal Logue, along with `Harry Potter' and `Brotherhood' bad boy Jason Isaacs, and original Hard Rock Cafe waitress Rita Gilligan, led the rockin' time last night at the brand-new Hard Rock Cafe Boston. Also making the roof-raisin' scene across from Faneuil Hall Marketplace were Aerosmith band mates Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton; Aaron Lewis from Staind; Scott Ian of Anthrax; Darryl McDaniels of Run DMC; the Click Five; Barry Goudreau of the band Boston; and ex-Van Halen frontman Gary Cherone. The rock 'n' roll eatery's grand-opening bash, hosted by Logue, was a benefit for Peace Games.

Katie tunes in

Boston Herald, MA
August 7, 2007

“CBS News” chick Katie Couric isn’t letting her newscast’s anemic ratings ruin her good time. Because the anchor gal was hardly singin’ the blues around the piano at The Summer House in Nantucket the other night.

Katie, who supped at the ’Sconset hot spot with a dozen pals including her well-to-do boy toy Brooks Perlin, took over the piano bar and closed the joint by belting out “America the Beautiful.” (They could have kept going till dawn, but owners Danielle deBenedictis and Peter Karlson aren’t ones to flout the local laws!)

As Katie and her crew arrived at the House, she just missed Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler Walk This Way out the door. Earlier, Steven had been reminiscing with Danielle and Peter, his landlords at the band’s first apartment at 1325 Comm. Ave.

“He told them that the building, which they no longer own, now has a plaque on it indicating it as the prior residence of the Aerosmith members,” said Someone Who Knows.

Hard Rock: A new destination

BostonNOW, MA
August 7, 2007

Hard Rock celebrates Faneuil Hall location

While it's been open to the public for more than a month already, the Hard Rock Cafe will hold its official grand opening tonight with a celebration that includes rock stars, a red carpet and more.

"Moving to Faneuil hall is a great opportunity for us," said Lelle Lutts, marketing manager for Hard Rock Cafe Boston. "It's a much bigger venue with enough room to have a concert room of its own which will really open us up as a destination for both local and national performers."

Lutts added that the larger space also let the Hard Rock devote more space to the best of Boston's rock pioneers. In fact, memorabilia from Aerosmith, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the New Kids on the Block and more will be displayed in a special room at the restaurant.

While the rock memorabilia on the walls has always been a drawing point for the Hard Rock, Lutts said she hopes the higher visibility of the new Faneuil Hall location will help spread the word about what's on its menu as well.

"We're a fresh kitchen," she said, "and a lot of our menu reflect that. The guacamole and salsa are made fresh each day, the onion rings are hand cut and the chicken tenders are all battered by hand. It's one of the things that separates us from other restaurants."

Hard Rock Boston's grand opening. Tonight. Red carpet begins at 7 p.m.
Green Line Govt. Center stop.

Celebrity News

Boston Globe, MA
August 6, 2007

Aaron Lewis isn't your typical rock star. For example, the Staind singer's got no use for LA and he's never been to the Playboy Mansion. "I don't think my wife would like that very much," says Lewis, a Longmeadow native who now lives in the Berkshires. "She wouldn't want to go, so I don't want to." Lewis, who's performing solo tomorrow at the opening of a new Hard Rock Cafe at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, said he leads a distinctly simple life. "This is God's country out here. I live in a town of 1,200 people -- there are more cows than people." Other rockers expected at tomorrow's Hard Rock rave include Boston's Barry Goodreau, Joey Kramer of Aerosmith, Scott Ian of Anthrax, and former Ozzy ax man Zakk Wylde.

Model behavior

There were more than a few familiar faces dining at Amanda Lydon and Gabriel Frasca's Straight Wharf Restaurant on Nantucket the other night. CBS anchor Katie Couric was at one table, while former KISS-108 kahuna Richie Balsbaugh and Aerosmith screamer Steven Tyler were at another, and comedian/actor Kevin Flynn was at yet a third table. Who do you suppose attracted the most attention? Here's a hint: Flynn was with three models. . . . Separately, Tyler and Couric, accompanied by her boyfriend Brooks Perlin, were also into the Summer House over the weekend, where the anchor- woman even played a few tunes on the piano.

Ross Halfin's Diary

"Got home this morning. I was on my own and it was too much hard work in 48c heat. I just was melting all over my cameras. My idea of travel is it's fun without the pressure of the usual stuff I do. Next time I'll get a car and a driver... So, after cooking for a couple of days came home. Picked up some magazines.

The new cover of Q done by me with some of my "BEST FRIENDS" all shot together... Okay I did shoot all of it, but it was done over a couple of months.

Thought I'd write something on the Q cover Guitar Heroes issue and how it was done. Edge was shot in Dublin. He was very professional, turned up a half hour late, apologised and stayed on to make up the time. He asked if I'd ever shot them early on. I told him I'd discovered America and toured with Rush, ACDC, UFO, Ozzy, Aerosmith and that ilk. I liked Edge a lot. The U2 camp is like being in the army, it's run with military precision.

Jack White was in Nashville and we shot at 9am - he's got a daughter so he's up early.

Jimmy Page was in Fulham on the hottest day of the year. I shot quite a lot that wasn't used.

Johnny Marr was in sunny Manchester (look at the sky on the inside spread). I'd never met him, he was a good bloke - as they say in ancient Rome. We talked about Rory Gallagher and how he acted towards people, always gracious.

Slash was in LA, at the bar of the Sunset Marquis Hotel. He did the interview sitting under giant prints of himself.

Matt Bellamy was at the Soho Hotel in London. Terry Hall (Matt's sexy PR) told me I had 15 minutes in a tiny bedroom, with the backdrop taking up the whole room. Steve Peck from Q stepped in and stretched it to 45 minutes while Terry chain-smoked and wouldn't stop talking inbetween blowing smoke all over the room.

Dave Grohl was in Los Angeles. Diamond Dave was so hyper. I was useless, not focused, shot in the evening while I was so jetlagged - I just wanted to go to bed.. At the end of the day I think it worked out well. The Master can still work well, even when half asleep.

Joe Perry was in London inbetween taking a nap and eating at Nobu with Jimmy Page.

I like it - I think it works very well..."
