South Shore Insider - Producing a Renaissance Festival

Patriot Ledger, MA
August 31, 2005

For about three months, Bonnie Shapiro has been relocated from Minneapolis to Carver... Shapiro, 57, is the owner and producer of King Richard's Faire, the annual Renaissance festival that draws more than 100,000 attendees every fall. The fair is open eight weekends, from Labor Day to Oct. 23...

Who's your audience? We actually have a family that comes every
day (and) has come every year for 24 years. I finally said, "I can't charge you anymore, just come in the gate!"

Aerosmith comes every year. Last year, Joe Perry and Steven Tyler came out a couple times with their families, and they buy from our leather makers, moccasin makers and mask makers. I think they buy costumes for their shows....

Les Paul Glad For Tribute Album

Online Rock Radio, Greece

Music industry legend Les Paul gets saluted by a who's-who of rock guitar players...(Tuesday, August 30th) when the album Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played is released. It features Paul in a series of teamups with folks including ZZ Top's Reverend Billy F. Gibbons, Journey's Neal Schon, Eric Clapton, Steve Miller, Jeff Beck, Aerosmith's Joe Perry, and Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones, just to name a few.

Paul told us that he dug into his personal address book to choose the players on the album. "Most of 'em were people that are very dear friends of mine and are...I admire what they do. They're great players, but knowing 'em personally, and knowing what they can play in other types of music - back in the dressing room (chuckles) - it makes me admire 'em all the more, and it's fun to play with 'em."....

Junior and Senior join forces to build bikes that will be auctioned off, among other items, to benefit the families of U.S. troops seriously wounded or killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. To learn more about the two charities benefiting from the auction — the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the Fisher House Foundation — OCC takes a field trip to the USS Intrepid, the scene of their Jet Bike unveiling so many years ago. Back at the shop, Senior has his mother's Cadillac restored to its original condition, surprising her with it, as father and son work through their rivalry and get started on their bikes.

Discovery Channel - 10:00pm ET/PT

Episode 55: Military Bike 2

After a trip to the nuclear submarine USS Albuquerque for additional inspiration, Senior finishes his old-school chopper, and Junior, his more modern bike. Then it's off to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., to show the wounded troops their creations. Finally, as the auction draws near, OCC enlists the help of their celebrity friends, including Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, to obtain items to auction off and raise more money.

Premiere: Sept. 12, 2005
Discovery Channel - 10:00pm ET/PT

Duet with Chris Botti

Inside Bay Area, CA
August 29, 2005

Hot Trumpeter Chris Botti has agreed to take 20 minutes out of his busy touring schedule to do a phone interview to promote his appearance Saturday at the JVC Jazz Festival in Concord....He's excited about a follow-up CD "Still in Love," on Columbia, coming out in October and showcasing a somewhat eclectic lineup of vocalists, including Michael Buble, Gladys Knight, Sting, Jill Scott, Paula Cole and Renee Olstead.

It also features Steven Tyler singing "Smile" with the "giant" London Symphony Orchestra, Botti says. "His vocal performance can match anyone's."

Calling it his "duets" album, he says, "People will be stunned by the non-industry vibe to the record." It seems that his friends — or people he knew through other people — jumped at the chance to play moody instrumental music. "The singers knew the template," he says. "Nobody got diva-ed out." ...

Hitting a Fever Pitch

New York Daily News, NY
August 28, 2005

The season's deluge of CDs will test mettle and take risks

Madonna will try to rebound from the first CD bomb of her career with a striking return to dance music. The sixtysomething Rolling Stones will try to prove they can make new music that rocks as hard as their classics. And Ashlee Simpson will explicitly address the scandal over whether she can actually sing - in the lyrics of a new song. Those are just a few of the plot lines and promises lurking behind the coming season's most anticipated albums.... (One caveat: Record company release schedules fluctuate more than the stock market. These dates need to be taken with a pound of salt.)

October 11

Aerosmith - "Rockin' the Joint" A live work from the hardest working band in show business.

On Tuesday - Get Ready To Rock

Newark Star Ledger, NJ
August 28, 2005

With its less-than-dignified exhortation, "Rock 'n' roll, hoochie koo, lordy mama, light my fuse," Rick Derringer's 1974 hit "Rock 'n' Roll, Hoochie Koo" is just about the last song you would expect gentlemanly nonagenarian Les Paul to record.

But there it is, on Paul's new album, "American Made World Played."

Other tracks include remakes of Robert Palmer's "Bad Case of Lovin' You" (featuring growling vocals by Billy Gibbons of Z.Z. Top) and Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle" (a collaboration with Miller himself). There is some pop, soul and funk on the album, but for the first time in Paul's nearly 70-year recording career -- which started years before rock was born -- the dominant style is rock.

"American Made World Played" comes out on the Capitol/EMI label Tuesday, less than three months after Paul's 90th birthday.

"Who at 90 years old would go play rock?" asked the guitarist and inventor during a recent backstage interview at the Manhattan jazz club Iridium, where he presents two shows every Monday night. "It's just ridiculous enough for me to do, and enjoy doing it."

Others on the album include veterans such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Aerosmith's Joe Perry, as well as relative youngsters like Joss Stone and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi joins Paul for a steamy version of Paul McCartney's "Let Me Roll It," while Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls croons the U2 song, "All I Want Is You"....

Santana & Steven

Thanks to Aerofanatic:

Santana has added a track with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith to his album, "All That I Am," due out Nov. 1....stay tuned.

More about it....

"All That I Am"
5/13/2005, The latest album from Carlos Santana entitled “All That I Am” is scheduled for release November 1st, 2005. Carlos has worked with several guest artists including Los Lonely Boys, Mary J Blige, Steven Tyler, will i am and Big Boi as well as his own talented band in creating a vast array of music from pop, hip-hop, Latin rock and everything in between. Some songs are still being tweaked in the studio before the final mastering.

Here is a statement from Carlos about his new CD:

“ ‘All That I Am’ is an extension and continuation of a vision co-created by Mr. Clive Davis and myself. We equate what we do with the dimensions of a three-ring circus or a Cirque du Soleil where children, teenagers, parents and grand parents can share unity and harmony in the family of life. We create songs and magic pairing to bring joy and happiness to the listener. Our deepest respect and gratitude to Clive Davis, Pete Ganbarg, Kevin Chisholm and all the artists, writers, producers and engineers.”

Love and respect,

Carlos Santana

Treasure Hunt

Aero Force One
August 25, 2005

News:

The hunt is on...somewhere within the new AF1 website are hidden links, and they each lead to pirates, doubloons and piles of gold loot!!

Okay, not quite but it's way better than that.

If you're one of the lucky fans to find one of the hidden links, it will lead you to either a Hohner Aerosmith harmonica, an autographed Joey Kramer Zildjian poster, an 8 x 10 signed by the band (except Joe Perry), or a Joe Perry autographed solo CD cover!

The cost of the buried treasure? One cent. The value? Priceless!

If you're the first to find it, you can buy it. Please note: One prize per participant. You know what always happens to those pirates in the movies who horde all the loot...they sink with it!

Happy Hunting. And no, we're not givin' you any hints! Winners will be announced on the Contests page.

Bang-Up Afterparty

Boston Herald, MA
August 23, 2005

And as long as we're on the Stones subject, the boys threw a big blowout after the Sunday night show at oh-so-swish Aujourd 'hui in the Four Seasons to kick off the Bigger Bang tour with a bang.

Mick, Keith, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts breezed through the blowout back at the fab Four after rocking Fenway Park for the first of two sold-out shows.

"It was very exclusive, very private," said Someone Who Was There. "It was just people the Stones invited, family and friends. It was a very warm intimate event. Like a reunion."

Carly Simon, who arrived at the concert with Steven Tyler, was onhand for the after-show festivities. Our spies spied her chatting up Jackson Browne, who had also taken in the show from the VIP seats. Designing divo Tommy Hilfiger was on hand with a tall blond Tommy Girl. Fergie, Will I. Am and the rest of the Black Eyed Peas, who opened for the Stones, made the scene along with ex-J. Geils frontman Peter Wolf and "Saturday Night Live" funnyman Jimmy Fallon. There was a huge buffet and the party cranked on until the wee hours. Apparently Wild Horses couldn't drag the guests out of there!

This is normally a quiet time in Boston, but more than a few folks changed their plans to make sure they were in town for the opening night of the Rolling Stones' world tour, "A Bigger Bang," last night at Fenway Park. Those on the list to see Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and the rest of the gang were: Steven Tyler, who hugged Carly Simon out in front of a dugout; Whoopi Goldberg; former Massachusetts governor (and huge Stones fan) Bill Weld; "Rescue Me" creator and star Denis Leary and his buddy funnyman Lenny Clarke; and Patriots QB Doug Flutie....

Stars Out For The Stones

Boston Herald, MA
August 22, 2005

...Back at Fenway, the crowds started drifting in a good hour before the Black Eyed Peas took the stage to warm up the masses. There were a number of private receptions, including Schwarzenegger's benefit before the show, a "Tickets For Charity" hoedown at Embassy and a "Start Me Up" soiree on the Green Monster for high-rollers.

Legendary rockers Steven Tyler and Peter Wolf were on hand to check out the Stones' debut along with "Rescue Me" stars Denis Leary, Lenny Clarke, and designing divo Tommy Hilfiger. Red Sox sultans John Henry, Larry Lucchino and Charles Steinberg made the rounds inside the park, while Sox base sweeper Colleen Reilly boogied on the field.

In the onstage boxes, we spied car czar Ernie Boch, Godsmack manager Paul Geary and WAAF morning man Greg Hill....

For the next six weeks, the chain's 47,000 stores in the United States and Canada have exclusive rights to sell Different Strokes By Different Folks – a tribute album that also features new recordings from Moby, Buddy Guy and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. 'Music Changed Us' - What A Roll

Patriot Ledger, MA

Rudy Childs remembers the good old days of the now-defunct Cape Cod Coliseum.... Seeing Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, Foreigner and the J. Geils Band in concert meant pure freedom for an 18-year-old South Shore kid. Besides, Childs was busy documenting the big hair, tight pants and guitars of classic rock with a Kodak Instamatic camera. After seeing at least two concerts a month at the Coliseum and other venues from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, Childs estimates he shot photos at more than 600 shows around the country. His first concert? Aerosmith at the Boston Garden in 1976.

"I grew up on AM radio.... It was all rock 'n' roll from there," he said. "Seeing concerts was a natural progression. All the upperclassmen talked about the concerts they went to; when I turned 18, I saw every concert I could." Childs became a pro at pushing his way to the front row, snapping frames of a young David Lee Roth in mid-jump or a pale-faced Steven Tyler clutching his mike....

But as Childs got older, the rock life lost some of its feverish charm. Security got tighter, ticket prices went up and, as Childs said, his "mission was over".... But it's the stacks of scrapbooks and photo albums that take up the most space in his childhood home on North Avenue, where he now lives with his family. "I've got all these photos, I just want to give them the right treatment," he said. At the suggestion of his mother, Childs is now compiling a 60-page photo history of his concert experiences. He envisions a "coming-of-age book," a sort of real-life "Almost Famous" for the literary set....

Tribal Motors CEO Dodd Russell and rock star Kenny Olson are working on making Traverse City home to a rock-and-roll/motorcycle scene....As for Olson himself, he has found himself busier than ever. One project he is excited about is his appearance on the upcoming Les Paul & Friends CD (August 30 release date) that features Olson, Sting, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and other guitar legends. Olson lays down some amazing guitar riffs on the closing track, "I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know," with Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall handling vocals and Les Paul and Joe Perry of Aerosmith adding additional guitars. "It was funny because I did all the guitar work on the song and Joe came in and laid down a few riffs and when the early publicity came out, the song was billed as Mick and Joe’s," said Olson. "Well I didn’t see it but Joe did and he was pissed and called the label and said this is Kenny’s song he deserves the top billing....

His newest and third CD, "Long Time Coming," features gritty songs about relationships and winsome love ballads. The album features a guest appearance by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, who plays harmonica on the song "Happiness and Misery"....

Green Party Added to LA Ballot

Times Picayune, LA

Baton Rouge - Next year, next to Democrats and Republicans running for elected office will appear Green, Libertarian and Reform party candidates....(Angie) LaPlace said that when voters register, they can pick from the five recognized parties. If they do not belong to one of the five, she said, they have to check "other" on the registration form then fill in a blank space listing what the "other" party is -- such as the Christian Party, which had 13 members as of July 12; the Confederate Party, with 12 members; the Black Panther Party, with one registered voter; and the Aerosmith Party, with one member....

You Can Live The Dream

The Signal, CA
August 10, 2005

...An idea is now a reality with Major League Experience, an adult fantasy baseball tour that gives adults the opportunity to live a dream by playing actual games in six different major league ballparks. "This is a true dream for a lot of people," said (Mark) Webb, a 10-year minor league veteran whose career saw him play as high as Class AAA. "This is the ultimate adult baseball league." The tour is intended to simulate, for people who never had a chance, what it would be like to be a major league player for nine days.....

The Major League Experience was made financially possible by Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton, a client of Webb’s friend Dave Berman. Webb asked Berman, a financial advisor, to help find someone to put up the necessary money to help get the business venture started. Within three days, Hamilton committed. "(Hamilton is) not a big baseball guy in terms of how knowledgeable he is," Webb said. "But he understands what it’s like to have a dream and then have that dream come true." Webb’s plan is that 120 more people will soon have that same understanding.

Faith Hill's daughter likes Steven

FAITH HILL and TIM McGRAW's daughter GRACIE has become a huge fan of ROBERT PLANT, STEVEN TYLER and STEVIE NICKS - at the tender age of eight.

Hill, also the mother of MAGGIE, seven, and three-year-old AUDREY, is stunned to learn her eldest offspring has developed such grown-up tastes in music.

She says, "Gracie is the rock 'n' roller of the family. Her favourite artist is - at eight years old now - Robert Planet. I am very serious.

"Last Christmas, she asked for an iPod and on the iPod she wanted Robert Plant, Steven Tyler and Stevie Nicks. The girl has got taste!"

New AF1 site 8/22/05

From Nicole @ AF1:
Hi everyone.

I wanted to let you know the NEW AF1 website is tentatively scheduled to launch on August 22! That's only 2 weeks away.

Some new things you'll notice:
1) RATE MY: cool "rate my" feature for the galleries. We can also use this for contests, fan art, etc.

2) POLLS: Polling feature for the main site...not just on the message board.

3) INTEGRATED LOG IN: One log in for the main site, store, and message board.

4) TOTALLY NEW MESSAGE BOARD: The same type of message board (PHPBB) BUT - it will be integrated to your main site log in. There is good news and bad news with the message board. The good is, you only have to log in once on AF1 to post on the board - either on the board itself, like you usually do, or through AF1. No more separate log ins. The bad news is, the message board is TOTALLY starting over. We can't save your ranks or your message board usernames. The old message board will be saved in an archive so you can read the posts. When you log into the new site, you can edit your "message board handle" under your profile. Pick the message board username you want. The new board will have public areas for all registered users, and members-only sections for fan club members. I know some of you will be sad to lose your ranks and start over, but this is how we have to do it.

5) Finally, an AMAZING design. The home page is SO cool and the inside content pages are beautiful. I can't wait for you guys to see it; I think you'll love it!

As for requested features like Chat, we do plan to bring it back but it's a Phase II feature. The great thing about the new website, sort of invisible to most of us users, is that it is very easy to add new features to it. This website is old and nearly impossible to build on. Smile We have really cool ideas planned for this new site though!

There will be more details on the new website launch coming soon.

Meanwhile, please do NOT try and steal someone else's message board username. AF1 has access to these profiles and will enforce the rights of their original owners to keep their message board username.

THANK YOU! Smile

- Nicole

Maybe tour dates will be announced that day also?

Artists & Performers - Celebration Of The Sea

Dave Feder -

"This Saturday was the Celebration of the Sea festival in Key Largo, and it was a great show. Lots of amazing people put their hearts and sweat into making it happen and I would love to express my humble gratitude to you all. It’s amazing to see folks from very diverse backgrounds and economic situations working together for a common worthy cause. I’m not going to name all the people who helped because it would take all day to type. But you know who you are. My special thanks goes to the people behind the scenes doing all the grunt work for the rehearsals, rigging and sound. And many hats off to the musicians from near and far. I’ll be posting all their web sites and info in the near future. There were so many highlights for me but I think the most memorable was when Nyan got up and Jammed with Sabrina, DMC and Steven Tyler, and the All Star Band! I’m not sure if he realizes yet just how cool that was."
